Very nice bird!!!
The weather was kind sour here this morning, so I didn't bother going out. This coupled with the fact that I have to go see an orthopedic surgeon next week for an injury I have to my right shoulder are kind of putting a damper on my hunting plans. I haven't ruled out trying to shoot left handed though... 
I did see a big ol Tom in full strut about 3/4 of a mile from my house this afternoon while I was driving home though... |

It was sprinkling out when we were out. I assumed they wouldn't be moving much....but to my surprise. This guy and 5 of his jake buddies were haulin' ass to get the hen decoys. Morning wood is universal.
Hey the shoulders already effed up, can't get any worse right??  Or maybe good off-hand practice.

Holy Cow were there a lot of birds gobbling Monday ! Tuesday wasn't bad either, but not as good as Monday.
I needed to be right in their wheelhouse to get them to respond to my calls and even then they were reluctant to come in. Two young birds woke me up at around 9am on Mon. from about 30yds behind me and they worked to my left behind some thick stuff and wouldn't move for about an hour. They moved off and I never could get in front of them. Tues. was fun, but another hunter got a little closer on the other side of the ridge. |
