I'm posting this topic because what just transpired tonight. I was at a local bar with some friends and one Ex Marine. We were drinking and having some fun with some lady friends until an unkown person to me had attempted to assault myself and throw objects at me. I was the only asian guy in the group and Have not been in any conflicts for MANY years. I was appauled and this person singled me out and shouted out slurs which in my younger years i would imediately retaliate. This Person was threatening my life. Keep in mind i never laid eyes on this dirtbag and he was about 45 years old and looked like a "White Snake" Reject. I would have been more than happy to show him what my Glock 19 with 31 rounds can do but I thought better and directed the incident to a Large Bouncer on the scene. He took care of the situation and 86'd their asses out. This was a wake up call for me because i have passed on getting a Conceal Carry permit for years figuring nothing will happen that will require such a thing. This, Keep in mind was only a few blocks from my house, was too close to home. I will and definitely take my course in getting a permit. My brother, (a Portland Police officer ) told me to get a gun and a permit when i first moved her in 1997. I told him it's not like the old days of KKK and Neo Nazis and it will be ok. Now this is a GIANT Wake up call because I was in a state of being threatened and was not able to respond. Having a gun, i understand does not give me power but gives me an ability to preserve my life and freedom.

Too many stories in the past i've heard of people getting stabbed leaving a bar or even shot by someone who was drunk or just plain Dumbshits with ego issues. These two dirtbags have given me a reason to get my permit. I know well enough when it is allowed to be use and when not to. I'm sad to say that now I feel it's not safe anywhere I go, and that things happen. I found out that later the Bouncer of the bar said that the two "gentlement" (sarcasm)" had purchased shots for some ladies and they drank them and left them and left them high and dry while i was with some ladies with my friends they were repulsed that I "some asian guy" was with 3 pretty ladies with two other guys. This attack happened after i was the last person to leave the table witnessed by 1 other person. I demonstrated self control tonight and left the confrontation to discuss the matter with the Employees of the establishment and what was great was the Bartenders were AR-15 fans and even had their own AR's and a Carbon -15.,

Final note. I'm not going to get my permit just because of the incident but friends have urged me to get one and now it all just makes sense.

I have to call .

I mean, who the hell would ever own a Carbon-15?

j/k

The world is full of asshats. I'm sorry you had to deal with one. Now go get your CHL. That rifle in the trunk doesn't do any good if you don't have a handgun to fight your way to it.

Gunkata,

I've been in your situation before, believe it or not. While I'm as white as you can be (even whiter than a lot of Canadians), I evidently have "weak dork" written all over me.

I never even thought of owning a gun until my buddy took me out. Then, later, as I'm sitting in my apartment, by myself, 2500 miles away from the nearest family I have...well...makes you feel pretty isolated.

Then, as I started looking into it, it all boiled down to "who is going to protect me = only me". So, when the Utah CHL thing came up, I jumped on it.

I'm still working on some of the details, but I'm there.

Good luck.

P.S.- You might want to hook up with the recent "newbie" on this board who was looking for a CHL class.

Thanks for the support guys..

That's just awful. I'm sorry your night was ruined. I have a CCW because of the unknown. I live in an area where I leave my keys in my cars, my house unlocked and you can typically find my purse out in one of the rigs too. [of course there's never any money in my purse. Not because I don't trust it out there, I just don't have any!]

I think "where you least expect it" is the most common time and place for an incident to occur. A ccw permit, a concealed weapon, and the know-how to use it are a must-have 24/7 IMHO. Get that permit and as much training as you can afford.

I'm glad to hear you came through this ok. It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant and racist "people" can be.

Gunkata,

You did the right thing by getting the bouncers to do their job to avoid the situation from escalating. I must say that it is sad that there are stupid assholes like this out there this day & age. You should get your CHL and pratice defensive tactics.

I would highly recommend Oregon Firearms Academy for their Basic Handgun class which will more than meet the requirements to get a CHL. The basic handgun class will teach you all of the legal aspects of being a CHL holder, and what the aftermath of a shooting will mean for you. You can then take the Defensive handgun 1 & 2 after that. I took the DH1 class with M-60 this year, and it was outstanding. I plan on going to the DH2 this year.

Here is the OFA link.

get your permit!!
the bouncer was definetly the best way to go. props!

CCW would have been nice for a safe exit, and trip home.
...people looking for trouble may wait around for it to leave the bar. it can come from anywhere.

You're right. Bouncers still should have been called in, etc. CHL is only for "life in imminent danger."

Dude your asian?

I'm very sorry that you had to meet some A$$Hat. I am also happy that made it out physically ok, don't be afraid to talk about this because, emotionally, I'm sure you are hurt.

Hope to see at the next PR.

It would have mattered to me in one area. Exiting the place per that is usually where the retaliation attacks generally occur if not inside the establishment. Generally when a person get's escorted out of a place before you leave and, they are in the wrong, revenge usually comes to their little minds. They have time to prepare whatever they have in their car to take whatever frustration out on you.

I would not draw the firearm unless approached with a weapon of sorts nor would i even stick around for them to assault me. but if worst comes to worst I will be better off having been armed. Keep in mind i know of a person this has happened to at a bar in Portland where he was in a little arguement with another person he didn't even know and then the person left the bar after being escorted out. Later He left the bar and was stabbed by the same guy from 3 hours earlier. He didn't die but the attacker is in jail and prolly prison now. this was just a couple years ago.

I will be taking classes for CCW and also train with my Bro. and What Tracker stated about DH1 sounds like a good idea.

I just wanted to state one other thing. This situation was nothing like any other situations i've encountered in Bar or Club type atmospheres.. I've been in situations that needed bouncers before but that is usually due to issues of other matters with friends and their Ex or whatever or WS4LIF breaking stuff... small things.

This situation was racially motivated since he and his friend had it in for me when they first came in to the place. This was not even provoked by conversation or even an accidental bumping into or anything. This is the worst kind IMHO. Therefor if they had prior Motives I had no idea what to expect so Safety was my first concern.

Smart move - Call the bouncer and order another round.

No sense in wasting good ammo on some Fucktard. (You DO carry good ammo!)

It's pretty clear that you have a dozen or so guys on this forum who have your 6.

I hope the New Year brings you a real rifle. :) (J/K)

That sucks. Eventually they'll run into someone not as smart ;)

So tell us some of those "WS4LIF breaking stuff" stories...

Hmmm, this reminds me of recent incident with my sister and her boyfriend. They went out to a bar to celebrate my sister's birthday with her coworkers. Some guy comes up to my sister's boyfriend and thinks he knows him,but mistaken identity for some guy that kicked him out of another bar.Blindsides my sister's boyfriend, crushing his orbit, dislodging retina and crushing nose and cheekbone,concussion,etc... Turns out the guy was UFC fighter, was wearing special rings on his fingers just for the occasion, and didn't even know his victim. My sister's boyfriend has had plastic surgery and a civil suit is pending, but he is physically and emotionally scarred for life. All in front of my sister and all her friends.Let's be careful out there guys!

For my incident.. The bar was was "Sneakers" and the bouncer said he seen this guy there before and did not have to kick him out before, but that night he had to.

I know there is another thread about taking your CCW to a bar with you. Clubs and Bars that pat you down, you may not want to.. I understand that Drinking and Guns should never mix but it's IMHO that if you have a CCW and don't want to bring it to the highest Probability of getting Assaulted areas of any town then you might not want to get a CCW anyway. I rarely go to many "Bars". I'm usually a Mcormics and Schmick's or a McMinamens guy... Shinanegans.. you know.. TGIF's but i went to the bar with a friend. just to quote someone else on the forums " Don't go to bars to get drunk".

PS: i'm happy it's a New Year and Already took out any frustration on a TV set out in Memaloose road.
