I've got a small O2 bottle that I keep on-hand for emergencies. I bought it full, so I have never had to worry about filling it. Here's the issue: I don't have a prescription (it's for emergencies only), but I actually had to use it unexpectedly during a home birth emergency. I would like to get it filled again so as to have emergency O2 on hand "just in case". Is anyone aware of any local (prescott, az or surrounding area) places I could get it filled up without a prescription? (It's just a little guy and I don't want to drive 3 hours or something for this tiny bottle)

I'd ask the fire fighters up there where they get theirs filled.

Possibly scuba store? The issue is going to be propper fittings...that i know of you do NOT need a script for oxygen.

In my limited knowledge, there is medical grade air, and medical O2 tanks need to be evacuated completely before refilling.  You will just need to call scuba stores, airgas places, and possibly aviation sources too as they need O2 tanks filled too.

Wish I knew where.

Yeah...I got a pm from another member here suggesting aviation places. ABO is ridiculously expensive. We'll see I guess I didn't look into as state law on o2 scripts...

Some fire stations will have their own 'cascade system' to enable them to fill their own 02 tanks.....you'll just have to sweet talk a fire fighter somewhere along the way.

Otherwise, just call your GP doctor and explain the situation to him/her. Ask for a prescription to fill the given size bottle and they'll probably do so. Chances are they'll direct you to some sort of Home Care medical supply business who will more than likely just trade out your empty bottle for one of their own filled ones. Things may get sticky though if you have an old cylinder and it's past it's pressure test certification. They might want to stick you for the cost of the [required by law] pressure test/certification (this is called a 'hydro test'). Without a current certification it's unlawful to refill the cylinder. When I operated my own EMS business back in Kalifornistan, the hydro test and certification cost depended on the size of the cylinder. The 'Jumbo D' cylinders we used in the field cost $25.00 each at the time (8+ years ago) and if I remember right the certs lasted 5 years.....or was it 10?

Just be honest...i have pretty good luck with AZ doctors. Granted I am not asking for narco meds but i typically tell them what i want and why i need it. 99% of the time they give me what i need. Hell last time i got stitches the doc stopped what he was doing to teach me and mine about different suture types, which kits to buy and which to avoid for our purposes. Then let my family practice on my wounds with his oversight

Yeah, aviation O2 is going to be the most expensive.

It goes through a little more processing to get rid of moisture - we can't be having our O2 delivery systems freezing up at altitude....

Yeah I'm a helicopter pilot...I know nothing of ABO besides what I learned from servicing LOX as an f-16 crew chief...

I work at a hospital but think I may have better luck at the airport..not sure. I'll have to look into both.

I'm at the airport every single day, I'm unaware of anyplace out here that services oxygen.

You and I need to hook up for a couple of brews at my hangar....

FWIW, Atlantic Aviation out of Deer Valley is listed as providing aviation oxygen, but no idea
if they have the necessary fittings to fill any generic non-aviation bottles.

A scuba place that does tech diving might be able to help. Depends on how they mix their gas though. I think AzTek Divers would be a good place to start.
