I know we have a few HTF folks up in the Green Bay area, and wanted to see if any of you know anything about Integrys (website). I'm not all that excited about the prospect of picking up my new wife and breaking the lease on our apartment here in Sussex, but if this turns out to be a good opportunity, I'll be making the move soon. |

Quoted: I may have a neighbor that works there... what is the position you are looking at? Stay tuned for confirmation on the neighbor. Looking at a software support position. I've been in IT (system admin, networking, desktop deployment/software support, server deployment/support, disaster recovery, carpentry, plumber, pest control, etc etc etc) since before I graduated high school. I've been at the company I currently work for about five years, and I started in engineering, then moved into our hosted management team as we changed our business. But, as they cut people, I was moved to customer service. So, instead of fixing customer problems and helping manage our infrastructure, I take calls all day. A job that I am both thankful for, but I am never excited, happy, or proud I do. |

Hard work doesn't scare me too much - I'd just rather be working on fixing problems and being constructive rather than 'Welcome to XXXX my name is Mainfr4me how can I help you?' all day long. I'm very grateful for a job, and even more for the job I have. However, being on call 24x7 with no break, and no outlook for taking a day off or vacation because we are short staffed doesn't sit well with my wife or I. My teammate and myself support 3 countries, around 700 customers, and 30,000+ devices. When I started here, we had a team of 12 with rotations for on call, and we could work on projects and do some decently in depth troubleshooting for our customers to let them understand the equipment, and when they like the equipment, they bought more. Crazy concept huh? |

UPDATE:
I spoke with my neighbor. She does not work for the regulated side of the house, she works out in DePere. I described your situation to her and she said it is definitely worth an interview. She did not know much about the IT side of the house because that is not part of their company. The have a separate entity that handles that, which may or may not be part of a different group under the same umbrella. She likes working there and they can work you hard, depending on the group. I feel for you, going from making stuff work, to "Hello, How can I help you?" (blah, blah, blah) "What is your userid?" Good luck. |

Thanks for asking - that gives me some more warm and fuzzy feelings. In the last year, my team has had 5 different managers. Each time, any project we have is stopped, put on hold, reintroduced, then restarted after re-scoping the project. My review this year will no doubt be garbage because none of my teams projects have gotten anywhere (start, stop, rescope, start, stop, push back, rescope, start, etc etc etc). Can't wait to have my photography website up and running - I'd much rather be taking photos than burning out my mind on this stuff. Heck of a lot more fun. ![]() Carini's by mainfr4me, on Flickr ![]() Piano Blu by mainfr4me, on Flickr |
