Former Corpus Christi police chief Pete Alvarez who is running for sheriff is anti-NFA and would not do the CLEO signoff. Just a heads up when voting.

Yeah, he is one of the reason that I decided to vote in the Democrat primaries, I wanted to vote against him for sheriff. Although I do fear that he might win that nomination regardless just because of name recognition.

I was a cop in Corpus, but not when Alvarez was Chief, thank God.  He was not a friend of the street cop nor of firearms rights, IMO.

Who is Chief now, and when did ALvarez leave?

I'm not sure if they found a replacment yet, I havent been paying too much attention. He left several months ago.

There were some news stories about the local police union or something was having problems with him and they wanted him to resign.

Then the Sheriff resigned to run for County Judge, so Pete resigned so he could run for Sheriff.

I see.  Just FYI, in Texas public safety workers cannot strike nor force participation in unions.  You are probably referring to the Police Officers Association.  Corpus does have collective bargaining, and a pretty good contract.
