NY is whatever fits in the gun and NJ i believe is capped off at 15 rounds

What Hop said.  However NYC might be diffrent don't know. Also NY has there own Evil black gun ban and it will never sunset.

If its 15 in all of NY im breaking the law...

That said, Rochester and Albany also have "assault weapon" bans.

I do not believe there is a limit in NY for pistols or Rifles....

As far as I know, you can slap a beta C into a AR pistol.....

Except for having no "sunset" provision,
NY law copies the Federal Assault weapon law.

"preban" high cap mags (any capacity) are
legal to possess and use in ANY firearm.

                                            as far as it goes.....this is the rule....(except ny city).....of course...you may get some a-hole "cop"..trying to give you a hard time.......

Pistol/Rifle NYS* - Not limited

Pistol NYC - 17 rounds

Rifle  NYC -  5 rounds for a semi-auto, All SAW's are banned in addition to some semi-auto pistols which are classified as assault weapons.

* The Cities of Albany and Rochester have their own restrictions.

NJ is 15 rounds for either a rifle or handgun. YOu can block a highercapacity magazine to 15 rounds, It can be either temporary or permanent.
