This is my first Topic Post!!!

Got this via e-mail thought it would be good to post here. Call write and pass this on.

Last week was great news, we have more good self-defense bills and better self-defense bills than ever - and the best ones are cross-filed in both the House and Senate.  We have more sponsors and our opposition has fewer sponsors.  We have a Governor who will sign these bills if they are passed.  That's really good news.

However, here's the reality check -- we have a roadblock.

None of our good bills can pass if they don't get through the House Judiciary Committee.

We have 9 of the 12 votes we need to get a bill passed by the Judiciary - we need at least 3 more.

There are 9 Delegates on the Judiciary who are not rabidly anti-gun, but haven't cosponsored our self-defense bills.  It may be possible to persuade them with enough calls and letters. There are 9 possible yes votes -- we only need 3 more.

Please write, call and/or email the Judiciary Committee members listed below and ask them to act on these bills:

support House Bills

12 (Repeal Ballistic Fingerprinting),

14 (Repeal Integral lock requirement),

529 (MD Constitutional Amendment - Declaration of Right to Keep and Bear Arms),

1163 (Maryland Shall Issue CCW),

1382 (CCW Reciprocity with other states),

and to

oppose HB1367 (the Assault Weapon Ban bill).

If the toll-free numbers above are busy or don't work, just call (410) 841-xxxx  (replace the xxxx with the extension listed for each delegate).  When writing, address the envelope to "Hon." then their name.  The greeting should be "Dear Delegate (last name),"

An email to the group of them is better than nothing, but in order of effectiveness it's best to:

write them and follow up with a phone call

phone them and follow up with a letter

just write them

just phone them

email them individually

email them as a group

Gun Bill Day in the House is set for Wednesday March 8 at 1 PM.  We need to have a lot of people show up for the hearings, and would like to have a lot of folks testify.  Phil Lee has some great info on testifying here:

http://www.mcrkba.org/TestifyingInfo.html

If you are willing to testify -- particularly on HB-1163 (dropping 'good and substantial' for CCW) and/or HB-1382 (Reciprocity) please let me know  -  [email protected]  or  [email protected]   We would particularly like to see women testifying as  they are far more effective speakers for this issue.

Thanks to members/contributors: Don, Sean, Mike, David, Gary, Paul, Curtis, Matt, Scott, Dave, Ray, Earl, Dan, Kevin, and Keith we have $600 more towards our lobbying actions and forming a PAC  .  We appreciate it!

Thanks for the heads-up. Keep up the phone calls and emails. It only takes a minute or two, and sometimes when you call, you actually get to tall to the reps themselves. Most times when I call i just get some intern who is answering phones and couldn't care less what my opinion is, but they supposedly write everything down. In a couple of days you'll get a generic from letter stating how they are doing everyhting they can to preserve "our freedom".
