I have called most of the local stores/dealers that I know of in the south Austin area and can't seem to locate one.

I had an issue with my stock not adjusting on my M4 and after disassembly, I noticed the buffer retainer spring was broken... among other things.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're talking about ONLY the buffer retainer spring that goes under the buffer detent?

I'm probably going to get flamed here, but I've seen guys use a ballpoint pen spring in a pinch...

The man who can help you is Gerald / GDS Enterprises.  He's an ARFCOM sponsor based down off of Todd St in south Austin.  He sells every little piece and part there is.

Dave @ The Gun Store in Cedar Park probably has one as well.

ETA: GDS wants you to call in advance.  You can find them in the industry forum here.  They work gunshows on the weekends.  They'll almost certainly be at Saxet tomorrow.

Many better hardware stores have a spring assortment set.  The springs in the AR are not anything special, save the leaf spring under the rear sight.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check GDS at the show tomorrow. Is that what he goes by at the show?

Yes.  He is the guy with the big table full of black rifle related parts, accessories, uppers, etc.  You can't miss him.

Let me know if you still need one.  I have a leftover buffer retainer and buffer retainer spring.  I will drop it an envelope and mail it to you free of charge.

If you want a factory replacement and spares for the future, Brownells has complete spring kits for under ten bucks if you are a LEO, dealer, or gunsmith
