Mobile reporting in here as well....
Been doing disaster recovery in Biloxi. That place got thrashed! The Waffle House on the beach? Gone. Hooters? Gone. Bobbi's Bikinis? Gone. Shell Station at Veterans? Gone. Beauvior (Jeff Davis Home and Library)? Bottom floor is a drive-thru. Edgewater mall had 8" of standing water in it. The McDonalds out front of the mall? The roof is still there, but everything under it is gone. The Chevron station right by that? A memory. O'Charlies? O'Bye bye. It's devastation. There are houses all along the beach road (Hwy 90) that have been there for decades. All that is left are slabs. Everything above the foundation is about 2 blocks north. I have taken some pictures that I'll try to upload when I can, just so we can have a thread for people to check when they decide to stick it out.
We had a technician who did just that, in Long Beach, MS. I spoke to him at one point (on his T-Mobile phone I might add) during the storm, and he was in his attic with his feet dangling out. Why? The water in his house was over the door knobs. One of his neighbors who was there for Camille in 1969 said the water didn't get as far inland as it did with Katrina. This was serious! I'll be back over there tomorrow and will try to take more pictures. Oh, and if you like to gamble, you can forget the coast. The Beau Rivage had water up in the 2nd story. The Biloxi Grand Casino is supposedly on the wrong side of Hwy 90 now. The Treasure Bay Casino (I think, either way, it's the one that looks like the old ship) is trashed. This is going to cost soooo much money to recover from, it's mind-boggling.
I'll try to post more later. I'm running on generator power (in Mobile) and need to conserve as much fuel as I can, so in a little bit, I'm off the computer and the lights will be back off.
