My bosslady just left, apparently her dad in Mobile just lost everything in the flood .

wow

ETA:  My mom's neighbor who lives a little north of us lost THREE cars and a front bedroom to a tree.  Apparently the cars were all in a line, in the tree's path

It was and is very bad here in Mobile.  There is flooding everywhere.  I'm still waiting here at Mobile Infirmary(where I work) for the water drop to a level so I can drive home.

Lawdog reporting in from Mobile.  Katrina kicked our asses.  It is bad.  Running on generator power (thank you Honda!!!!) and just got our phone lines back up.  LOTS of trees down, roofs damaged or gone,  buildings destroyed.  Katrina is the worst storm I've ever been through.  Sending prayers up for New Orleans and Mississippi victims.

I made it home last night around 11:30pm.  The drive was surreal.  No power and no water at the house.  Luckily no real damage.  Mainly branches and leaves everywhere.  Alabama Power is telling us that it may be as much as 8 days to restore power.  We aren't getting the help that we got after Ivan.  The power crews from other states are heading to Mississippi and Louisiana.  We got spanked, but it could have been much worse I suppose.

I have a cousin, living in Mobile, that reported to me that they only had a few tree limbs down. They still had power, phone service, etc.   When Ivan came through, he left them in the same condition.  Just living right I guess.

A cousin that lives in NOLA didn't fare so well.  They've lost their home as well as a brand spanking new BMW they left behind when they bugged out.  I think the BMW would have bugged out with me!

We lost our power here in N. Alabama around 10;00 last night and got it back late this afternoon.

Mobile reporting in here as well....

Been doing disaster recovery in Biloxi.  That place got thrashed!  The Waffle House on the beach?  Gone.  Hooters?  Gone.  Bobbi's Bikinis?  Gone.  Shell Station at Veterans?  Gone.  Beauvior (Jeff Davis Home and Library)?  Bottom floor is a drive-thru.  Edgewater mall had 8" of standing water in it.  The McDonalds out front of the mall?  The roof is still there, but everything under it is gone.  The Chevron station right by that?  A memory.  O'Charlies?  O'Bye bye.  It's devastation.  There are houses all along the beach road (Hwy 90) that have been there for decades.  All that is left are slabs.  Everything above the foundation is about 2 blocks north.  I have taken some pictures that I'll try to upload when I can, just so we can have a thread for people to check when they decide to stick it out.

We had a technician who did just that, in Long Beach, MS.  I spoke to him at one point (on his T-Mobile phone I might add) during the storm, and he was in his attic with his feet dangling out.  Why?  The water in his house was over the door knobs.  One of his neighbors who was there for Camille in 1969 said the water didn't get as far inland as it did with Katrina.  This was serious!  I'll be back over there tomorrow and will try to take more pictures.  Oh, and if you like to gamble, you can forget the coast.  The Beau Rivage had water up in the 2nd story.  The Biloxi Grand Casino is supposedly on the wrong side of Hwy 90 now.  The Treasure Bay Casino (I think, either way, it's the one that looks like the old ship) is trashed.  This is going to cost soooo much money to recover from, it's mind-boggling.

I'll try to post more later.  I'm running on generator power (in Mobile) and need to conserve as much fuel as I can, so in a little bit, I'm off the computer and the lights will be back off.

Our power is trying to come back on.... very sporadic at this point.. it'll be on for a hour or two and then off for a few hours.... getting really tired of playing extention cord monkey.... start generator, run wire to water pump, hook up freezers and fridges...... then undo it all again every couple hours..

no phones, cell service is spotty at best.

thank god it isn't raining..... have a lot of ceiling damage from roof leaks.... finally got the tree off my truck... at least it's drivable.  Got the trees off the house, garage is toast along with much of my machine tools....

gonna take 3-4 tractor trailer loads to clear the debris out of my place..... my 18" chain saws aren't up to the task of cutting up these huge trees that are down....

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday;

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand but it shall not come nigh thee.

Did your buddy recently have a heart surgery?  I know it's a weird question, I'll explain if so.

I just reached them!  They are safe!

They got flood waters within 21" of their floor boards (basement flooded), but they are dry. They said it looked like "waterworld" just living on an island for a little bit. They had a broken water pipe in the basement so they were without water for a while.

They now have water, no power though. Cell service works now so I can stay in touch.

Thanks a million ! And I wish you well through this mess!
