Actually, I was asking this question because I was considering using my FAL this season. If I must use a 5-round magazine, where do I get one? Tapco has some for $20 EACH! Please tell me I can find a mag elsewhere for cheap. What about converting a 20-rounder?

Put a wooden dowel in a 20 rounder like they do with shotgun tubes.

Heck, I don't know. I was outside the department last week shoot'n the breeze with the local rabit po po and a stranger walked up and asked him that very same question. It's always been 5, to the best of my knowledge. I had a bent bottom on an aluminum FAL mag and cut down to hold 5. |

Thanks, Bradd, but that is out dated (by a year at least). Last year they added cross-bows as a primitive weapon for all. However, that version of the law doesn't specify any maximum capacity for rifles, only shotguns. This is also how the current 2003-2004 hunting regulation book specifies it.

I called the region 4 headquarters in Macon and talked to a Sgt. He told me that there is a 5 round capacity on mags in big game hunting. I then asked him to tell the code section. After about 10 minutes on hold he then told me that law was changed and there is no restriction on rifles...just shotguns. I need to give my friend the rabbit po po a call.

Awesome! I thought maybe the laws changed at some point. So, do you hunt P806? If so, what do you think about hunting with an FAL? I mounted a Leupold scope with ARMS low rings on an ARMS rail cover. It shoots very well. I tried some different hunting-capable (i.e. softpoints and BTs) and the rifle actually groups much better than I expected.

I would like to harvest one this year with a FAL. I hunted a lot when I was young, but time and family take priority now. My son, well that's a different story, he's been scouting every day (after school) for the last week and even has video'd some white tail on the move. He wants to take one with a muzzle loader too. I'll probably hunt with my R1, it's lighter (17" barrel) and groups decent with 150 grain soft nose. |

I do not hunt anything but humans anymore, but when I did hunt animals I sometimes used an HK-91 with a 20 round mag. I was under the impression that there was not a restriction on rifle mags.
