Hey guys,  Can any one offer advise on the right scope to buy for a DPMS LR-308?  To be honest I've really been looking at the Millett 6-25x56 LRS-1 Tactical 35mm Riflescope.  Does anyone out there have any input on this particular scope?

Thanks!

Ndenway has an Armalite 308 with a 6x Springfield scope on it that he likes.
Money is always a consideration. You pay extra for a 56 mm scope. Do you really need that big a glass?
I hunt quite a bit in late afternoon and do fine with a 40mm scope.
My last scope acquisition was a Burris XTR 3x12 50mm objective and 30mm scope body. I have it mounted on a heavy barreled 308. It's nice but I don't think it is much better than Super Sniper 10x 40mm for the rifle.

Good luck on making the right choice. It seems like there is always something better you wish you had bought.

Natchez has sale on Weaver scopes right now I bought one and I like it way better than the millet I had I think they are like 265 bucks for illuminated models

Millet doesn't have a real good reputation on their scopes, there are lots of other brands available in the same price range that are most likely a lot better.  Millet has a low power tactical scope that a lot of people think is pretty good, but for a higher power like you are talking about, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

I put a Sightron SII Big Sky 4-16X42mm Mil dot on mine.  It was the best scope for $500 when I got it IMHO.  It has a 1" tube but very bright glass, target turrets with very crips clicks, very accurate tracking, and 80 MOA of elevation adjustment.  I have only shot it out to 500yds but I think that is more than enough elevation adjustment to get to 1000 yds.  That is alot of adjustment for a 1" tube.

Check out Vortex scopes. They had a tent at the outdoor expo this past year with several competitors scopes (I.E. Leupold and Nikon) to do side by side comparisons. Their glass was very clear and and competitve with the other brands at considerably lower prices. Fit and finish was nice but I have not had a chance to field test one. They have a bunch of different models from $100-$500.

what kind of shooting do you plan on doing with it?

hunting, target shooting, longrange ect. and what kind of price range are you looking to stay in?

I'm not real big on varibles, every one of them I've had changed poi when I changed the power level, so I stay with fixed powers for the most part, the varibles I do own get sighted in on one power and left there,

on the low end of the price scale check out the bushnell 3200 series (made in japan), for the money (paid $175+ tax) they're pretty decent 1" scopes, (the 4200 series has I think 30mm tubes never tried one so not too sure), I never checked the amount of elevation they have either.

I've got a 3200 fixed 10x mildot model with target turrets, glass is clear/bright, hasn't fogged up yet with rough handling I've given it, tracks good and holds it zero, I've had it mounted on a 17hrm, 223, 308w and 300wm,

got a bit hamhanded with a driver this last time when mounting it and overtightened the rings, put a couple of grooves on the tube, but it's still working fine.

the springfield scopes are made in japan, the 6x range finder model I have isn't made anymore (paid $330 + tax), they had a lot of features albeit some are a bit gimmicky, etched rangefinder graduated to 700 yards with 168gr match ammo started at 2650fps, fine crosshair, the turrets click is solid and audible, tracks well, good glass and hold their zero great, but the little internal level bubble breaks loose on them and spins around, doesn't affect the zero but is distracting when your consentrating on the target when shooting rapid fire,

for the price, there are better scopes that won't have as many features, but for a shooter you don't need the little gimmicky stuff, but if you can pick one up cheap, you'll like them.
