As a spur of the moment range visit, zzxx99 and I made a quick trip to CE this morning.  After shooting my RRA Varminter a few times, it quickly got boring.  The rifle is so accurate, shooting paper got real old.  Shooting broken pieces of clay targets also got old.  So, I set up a few .308 cases on the 100-yard line.  It took me 5 shots to hit the first one, two shots to hit the second and 1 shot to hit the third.  I'm not sure which one this is, but it's the only one I could find on the berm.

The ammo I used was IMI M855 (62-grain ball surplus).  The rifle has a Jewll trigger, Harris bipod and Nikon Monarch UCC 4-12x40 scope mounted in ARMS rings.  This was the first time shooting the Varminter.  Can't wait to see what it will do with match ammo.

Nice!  I wish we could have met up on Monday so I could have seen your set-up.  After shooting my 16" A3, I have been trying to sell my MAK so that I can buy a varminter upper.

I would assume that with accuracy like that, you are very happy with RRA.  I am torn between RRA or sticking with Bushmaster.  decisions, decisions...

I'm a big boy, but this is one HEAVY rifle.  I think I'll stick with my carbine for CQB stuff.

Yea, I'm sorry about Monday.  My job has been very demanding lately.  However, you're welcome to shoot this rifle anytime we can hit the range together.  I'm very happy with it.  I think the RRA stuff is the best bang for the buck right now.  Very good quality.

Dang, Book, good job getting the duct tape and powder burns off that brass!

Book was On Fire today.  I saw him shoot a 1.5" 5+ shot group with iron sights on his 20" chrome lined AR.  With milsurp.

All hail Tactical Bookhound!

Time to buy big chunk of land for 1000m range!

I was thinking the same thing.

Aw shucks....

Nope, Tactical Book was the sharpshooter on this trip.  Methinks the competition needs to move to longer ranges.

C'mon landowners, help out the peasants!  It's for a good cause.

zzxx99 is right, we need longer target ranges.  The wife and I are currently looking for some land, but due to cost per acre we're starting to look further north than I had hoped.  Anyone got anything closer to the Atlanta/Mayretta (as the true southerns say) area?

Book, What length barrel did you get?  Was it 24"?

I have an RRA 18-incher and thought I was doing pretty good shooting golf balls at 100.....I guess I need to move them back some more.

Chris, I got the 20" barrel.  What kind of glass are you using?  This Nikon is really clear.

Golf balls at 100-yards is awesome.  However, your rifle can do better.  Next time out I'm going to put up a bunch of clothes pins and shoot those until it gets boring.

I have a Leupold 3.5-10x50 on mine.  I'm sure the rifle can do better, but I'm making the slow transition from "blaster" to "shooter".  I just need a little more range time.

That's a nice shot!

Next time let's try to hit a .223 with a .308!

Fuck that noise, next time I'll be sure to bring the ol' Ruger 10/22.  If I can witness BookHound picking off .22LR shells at 100 yards, then you can color me impressed.

Unless he's shooting from a rest.  Then he's still a putz.

I've got a 25-06 case that bears a stron resemblance to that somewhere.  I shot it at the Lake City, FL range a few years back.  Much Fun!!!!!!!!
