Some of us were talking the other night at dinner about having a long range shoot. For bolt guns or "Sniper" type stuff. How many are there that would be intrested in this?

Time and place to be hashed out later.
Distance,oh say 300 + if we can find it.
Who has a "long gun" and wants to shoot?

So who's in?

I shoot at the longer ranges (200-600 yards) out at ASC at least twice a month.  Will be there, hopefully, a couple of times over the long New Years weekend.

I always go early in the AM before the wind picks up too much.

Stop by and shoot my new F-Class Grendel rig if you like....

Yep, give a time, date and location and I'll hope to make it.  I finally got the rings and scope base and put my new Zeiss Conquest on top of my 700 PSS... was plinking a 16" metal disk at 300 yards with no problems... even with the mil surplus brass.  Love watching the metal disk jerk back a half second before ever hearing the 'ting' of the metal hit..

Love shooting that thing!

Hey guys.

Sorry I didnt bring this up on the forum yet. But some of us have been circulation an email topic on this.

Problem is that most of us cant agree on a range to meet up at so far.

The Bayou Rifle range(Has range out to 1000 yards) does not allow 338 or .50. So some of us cant do anything there.

The Golden Triangle has a range to 600 yards, but they are in Beaumont. Not sure if anyone wants to make that kind of drive.

So that leaves ASC as the most central spot that we all can shoot long distance at(Range to 600)

Here is another discussion going on on Snipers Hide. I am going to try to make this a once or twice per month. That way we can also arrange for some CQB style drills in at the Impact Zone once a month also.

My email addy is

I have 500 yards at my place.  If you wanted to use it.  If I could get some time off and get some trees cleared out, I would have about 800.  The only problem with my range is you could only shoot about 2 at a time.  You could shoot UKD's there, since you usually shoot them one at a time anyway.

Are you planning on doing fixed distances or UKD stuff?  The reason I am asking is, I sometimes shoot at Golden Triangle at the 60 x 600 match.  It is really good, because one of the guys that you shoot against is the F-class state champ.  I shot 590 something one time there, and didn't even place in the top 4.

Howdy John. Happy New years.

Was hoping to hear you chime in. You are pretty much the guy for long distance that I know of. You figure out what we can do for a monthly meeting or bi-monthly. And we can prob all spend a weekend pitching in to help you with whatever land work you need.

600 yards is plenty for me(Cant even see that far through my scope!!!)

Any type of shooting is good with me. I can make some steel targets if you guys can provide me with some plans.

John,if you want to go to 800 and need help clearing trees brush or what ever just let me know.I am right down the road.I have no problem coming out to help. Thanks to Rita got a brand spanking new chainsaw.I think we can muster help if needed.

Tim if its all the same,i would personaly prefer not to got to ASC.I have one to many run-ins with those guys.
I am all for going to Beaumont, thats only about a hour for me and John.My 02
As for Bayou i am out as the only thing "running" right now is the 338 Lapua Mag

Thats what this thread is all about us decidingg IF there is a intrest in every one getting together.Sounds like to me there is,So lets change direction and figure out where we are going to shoot,

My vote: Beaumont or John's place

How far? For the first time out.I think no more than 600,unless your "set up" things change ten fold after that(at least thats what i found) i think John will back me up here.

This is good. I like where this is going.

We can make some steel hanging targets at various distances to shoot at also right?

I've been wanting to see how well my Savage does at over 200. Any chance someone could take pity on the guy that hates driving and pick me up at the nearest airport?

I'll be shooting at 175-200 this weekend. UKD, single shot from a cold bore, and if I miss the target WILL run away, leaving my freezer empty for a year

If you are interested in the 600 yd. shoot at Beaumont, it is the first weekend of the month.  The cost is 15 bucks.  It is a good shoot since it is a fixed distance.  The people over there are really helpful, and you won't feel like an idiot just because you didn't finish in the top 3, of do something stupid.  Ask me how I know.

If you want to shoot here once a month, that would be great.  I could use the practice.  I got lots of steel at work, and I could cut some targets.  We could set them at different distances.  This would give us practice at range estimation.  If someone has a range finder, we could set up at fixed distances to get come ups, for people who don't have them, or for someone changing bullets/powder.  I know I won't be able to do this in Jan., but in Feb. we should be able to get something going.  If I don't  have that patch of trees cleared, we can still do something like 300,400,500.  Maybe some short UKD stuff.

Hey guys, it's great that we now have a place to shoot at with John's offer.

But in the mean time, this doesnt mean you can just sit on the couch!!!!

So lets atleast try to get together once every 2 weeks even if it measn putting your differences aside at ASC(I can help with people problems there, we know almost everyone that works there).

How is every other sat afternoon at ASC's 200 and move on to longer distances starting lets say Jan 24th 2006?

We had a blast today out there with SC-Texas and HK94. Hopefully more of you guys can join us next time.

Pics to come in a bit.

TIm ASC is about an hour and a half  from me i cant make that trip twice a month.Maybe once a month if i am lucky.Even Beaumont i cant make twice a month. I think once a month would be good to start out.If this grows then we can go twice a month.

Other opinions?

I did not know yall went toASC today.

great pics tim.
you might take a look at Greenwood gun club.  link
i have shot service rifle with them a couple times.
they are a little ways south but they have a pit and you can pull butts.
sure you have to trade off with a partner but you get instant feedback via two way and the targets.

Great idea Mike. I will call them next week to see how they are setup and what it takes to shoot at the 600 there.

We can always rotate the range locations so not a single one of us always have to make the long drive.

Hey VM, We really dont need a spotter. Becasue at 200 you can see your own bullet holes(.270 and above) and at 300 you can barely see with a spotting scope.

However, SC might need some one to remind him of which target he needs to focus on at times.

i wanna shoot my recon and it loves federal gmmk's and the only place i have seen them is at asc. but thats a good drive from where im at.

but if you just want to shoot it it shoots ok with std stuff too and i could bring the beowulf out too.

work nights so sometimes its hard to fall asleep early enough to wake up sat morning to go which is the main reason i dont like setting a time/date to go since i might not wake up to go but since you are close by i will try and make it out saturday morning if thats good for you, have you # and will call you.

anyone else? anyone know where to get federal goldmedal matchkings in .223 69 or 77gr. or even 168gr. for the .308 that isnt super expensive in town?

i have found that competition shooting sports carries the reloads for fairly cheap but in the past i was not able to pick up from arne. he is located downtown and only ships and since its ammo that would mean a good wait via ups.

How about Gander Mtn?  They stock most Black Hills blue box ammo, at least the one here at 290/1960 does....
