Anyone up for meeting at Hite Hollow to shoot?
Say Saturday, October 23rd? I apologize to the newcomers to the VA board, Hite Hollow is a PUBLIC range in Augusta Springs just outside of Staunton. It is a real nice facility and has been the site for many an "unorganized" shoot. Directions: Hite Hollow Shooting Range: Near Augusta Springs. This range is open from sunrise to sunset every day. From Staunton, take Route 254 west to Buffalo Gap, then Route 42 south about eight miles to Augusta Springs. Take Route 845 about a half-mile to Forest Development Road (FDR) 82, and follow this road about one mile to the range. (Deerfield Ranger District, (540) 885-8028.) I'm sure somebody here has a picture or two they could post to show the newbies what Hite Hollow is like. Steve. |
If I am still here, yeah.
On the same note, Larry the Ranger is now in South Dakota and will be transfering out there permanently. I found out from a few of his guys working the road to Elkhorn Lake two weeks ago while on vaction. |
Sounds like a plan.....if all my stars line up together that might be a debut for the M16......
You might want to see your Doctor if your form 4 comes back....you'll need a prescription to whipe that shit-eatin' grin off your face! Hope the ATF will accomodate you Ed, nothing cooler then seeing the grin on someones face the first time they dump a 30 rounder through their machinegun. Steve |
Not holding my breath..... |
Darn, Bonnie and yourself are making Alexandra and myself feel bad for spending money to fix up our house instead of buying more guns! It will be good to see the two of you again. Steve & Alexandra Hallmark Small Arms |

I was thinking of heading down there on Columbus day weekend, depending on if I head out to Knob creek or not.
I've never made it to a shooting get together before, but I'd like to break out a few toys from the toy chest & come on out.
No a good weekend for me. If the date changes, count me in.

Just don't cut in line ahead of me |

Have to work every Saturday. Always hear about the shoots from Mike @ TSC, but haven't been able to make one yet.
Any chance of doing one on a Sunday sometime? |
AAAAWWWW SSSHHH(((###, you need to ask? How much are we mixing this time? |
Must be suspended off the ground....... Bring 8' tomato stakes and some wire......... |
Need some way to hang the steel like they did at BRD. Much better then laying it in the dirt.
Give me drawings of what you need, have plenty of scrap and the ability to make what is needed. I can make hangers, just don't have steel here over 3/8" for the targets. Danny |
__ | | You were answering mm419's request for a diagram, right? |
__
They were shaped like . | | Not sure how the steel was attached since I didn't get a look at that. Also it was made out of steel pipe? Like I said previously, anything is better than laid down on the dirt. |
Galvinized pipe is good right up until it gets shot. Then it sucks. The torn pieces will cut you up quick. I will bring some threaded rods again to drive in the ground like I did at BRD. It worked OK, but I need a 2x4 section on the backs of the rods to keep them from digging in. I may also try to attach a nut to the front to keep them from falling forward as one did when I shot it three quick times. For Hite Hollow specifically you could make a simple 12" wide "U" but with a squared off bottom. Drive the legs of the "U" in to the side of the berm, oriented horizontally. Creating a hanger that used the berm as the main support for the "U" channel. Attach a 3/8" stud to the bottom of the "U" and go from there. |

Will be bringing my new Bushmaster BAR-10 .308, anyone that wishes to shoot her is more than welcome.
This is going to be a good time. |
OH Yeah?hmm I might have to take you up on that LRT I can bring some more .308 with me if you don't mind running the surplus brass stuff that I shot at BRD. Is there going to be a meeting place like we did for Sleepy Creek? The Mrs. and my self have never been down there before. VA-Spook |

It would be kinda out of the way for you to meet us. We go out 66w to 81s to the Woodrow Wilson bypass west (goes around Staunton) then to 250 west to Churchville, 42 south to Augusta Springs/Buffalo Gap about 8 miles then right on route 845 (range road) Now there's a sign that says 'Rifle Range' or something to that effect on the left side of the road. Here the directions from the VDGIF web site. Hite Hollow Shooting Range: Near Augusta Springs. This range is open from sunrise to sunset every day for firing rifles, pistols and shotguns at stationary targets. Moving targets such as clay pigeons and bottles are prohibited. From Staunton, take Route 254 west to Buffalo Gap, then Route 42 south about eight miles to Augusta Springs. Take Route 845 about a half-mile to Forest Development Road (FDR) 82, and follow this road about one mile to the range. (Deerfield Ranger District, 540-885-8028.) |

If I make something by those drawings, they are going to be small kind of. What I really need is a detailed drawing. I have some rebar hiding around here somewhere, along with some pipe. Whatever it is will need to fit into the back of my Tahoe. Danny |

0400 is about the time I open the door to my job, think I may have to submit to a viral infection for the 23rd. <cough><cough> |

you were looking kinda pale today LRT, I think a nice healthy dose of vitamin M4gery might help heal what ails ya
Yup and the entire staff is starting to show a slight sign of illness, hehehehehe. I feel a cold comming on now. |
Can everyone bring some sort of targets. The best targets I've found lately have a saying on them. Kerry / Edwards. There are places you can go to and get as many as you want, all you have to do is ask.
I was planning on grabbing a few but I haven't seen any on the roads yet. Are there any places in NOVA where one can go get yard signs. Also, maybe find a pumpkin patch which has some old ones. |
So far I have 2 Vetrans for Kerry/Edwards that will be attending |
Someone hasn't been taking their meds to create that sign. |
No that just proves the need for the 'no child left behind' must continue that sKerry probably opposes. |
Anyone still going to this? Not much traffic in this topic, but then again I believe once something is 'pinned' to the top most people bypass it.
Anyway, looks like great weather coming up. |
