This is a very early planning to Build Party on Oahu in 2006.

Group buys and others ideas are gladly welcomed.\\
Please contribute to this thread and any ideas or guys who want to join.
Food, BBQ, Drinks, Tools, etc......

I have a MIG welder , AK bending jig, grinders and other small tools.

NFA, USC 922, State 134 and other laws apply. I am here to help those who want to try your hands on a build.
First timers are very welcomed. Buy your kits now before you regret it later. Prices are going up.

Everyone is welcomed.

AK kits are relatively still cheap at around $100. Give it a shot.
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 6:59:41 PM EDT
My guess is that there isnt many kit builder in Hawaii?
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 7:31:51 PM EDT
I'm realitivily intrested in an Ak-47 built from a kit. Just worried about getting ripped with bad bore or missing parts.

got good service from Lois @ CFS, Scott @ DPHarms, and Bob @ Akron Armory..

AKs are shoters and im not really worried about the Bores. Romys and Polish kits are chromed bores.
its only the YUGO that may have dark bores.

AK Kits have already UP'd $10 in price this weekend. 1919 kits have gone up about $100.
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 11:00:29 PM EDT
They have extended the barrel ban from sep 10 to the first of the year. Hopefully the market will have a quick flood of cheap parts kits. I have a kit from Akron Armory and if anyone from the B.I. is intrested in getting together for a build party count me in. Im in the process of buying a small sand blaster if anyone is intrested in refinishing their kit.
Link Posted: 8/20/2005 10:55:15 PM EDT
I have no kit build experience but am anxious to learn. Would love to build my own 1919. Please IM with further details if any. Thanks
Link Posted: 8/22/2005 2:51:25 AM EDT
1919 are getting expensive and may put in on the back burner. if you can pck up a kit and side plate we can put it together. If you let me shot it...........

it best to get the Isreali 308 kits as surplus IMI linked 308 ammo cans are readily avalible and cheap.

Roth,

You should be able to store your personaly owned firearms with your units armory, unless something has changed.

Suka,

I will have a 1919 kit for the build or otherwise, keep us updated.
Link Posted: 8/30/2005 2:16:51 AM EDT
So what exactly is needed for an AK build? Receiver flat and demilled parts kit?? Is that it?

If i wanted to join in would i need a rivet set or anything? Anything else i'm gonna need that's not included in the kit?

Stone

Link Posted: 8/30/2005 9:28:41 AM EDT
A 100% reciever will be easier to build but cost a bit more(FFL), flats takes more time in alighment and welding up the rails. (No FFL)
There are a few State and federal laws that needs to be followed to be completeely legal. But the important ones are these.

Flats do not have S/N but still needs to be registered with HPD after it is bent (usually the # from the parts kits or issued by HPD, your permit #) Stamping must be at least 1/16" tall and .003 " deep. You are the Manufacture and ONLY you can bend the Flat...
Federally, the main thing is 922(r) compliance, Stateing that no more than 10 imported can be on a firearm banned from importation. List of 20 parts by BATF (regular stamped AK's have 16) any six parts can be sub for USA parts. Reciever is a given since the kits dont come with one.

(1) Receiver*
(2) Barrel
(3) Trunion
(4) Brake (if attached)*
(5) Bolt
(6) Bolt carrier
(7) Gas piston*
(8) Trigger*
(9) Hammer*
(10) Disconnector*
(11) Buttstock *
(12) Pistol Grip*
(13) Fore Grip*
(14) Magazine body*
(15) Mag Follower*
(16) Mag Floorplate*
* readily avaliable USA parts

An AK mag is still a RIFLE MAG, the Attorny General of Hawaii has yet to make a ruling , so its an IFFY. ( Dont quote me on this , but block it just in case ). HRS 134-8(c) states PISTOL MAGS :
This subsection shall not apply to magazines originally designed to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition which have been modified to accept no more than ten rounds and which are not capable of being readily restored to a capacity of more than ten rounds
http://www.mgawley.com/hrs134_2004.htm

So you can still buy the parts of the mag and assemble them in Hawaii with 10 rounds....

If this is your first Kit build I'd go with a screw build. Start to finish may only take a few hours with basic Drill, Tap, screw driver. Screw kits cost about $10ish, G2 Trigger combo w/ grips & Gas Piston $50ish. Reciever $12.99 flats, $50-$70 100%, Parts Kit $100-$250.

Or challenge yourself with a Rivet build. Lots of work....but fun h.gif

Buy the kit and sit on it , You wont regreat it. They were less than $ 250 last year ($229). Some milling is nessary with the 1919 semi. check out 1919 com for complete step by step builds...

Damn id love to shot that at KoKo head , even with a 5 round link , hehe . Maybe Mike will let us rip it ?????????????????????

I *can* but getting it in and out is another point all together... nearly impossible...

Heads Up.
Complete 1919 firearms are $999 at CDNN with spare 308 barrels at $59.
I say these are excellent prices for them....
A build may go over this price if labour and other tooling are considered..

I wonder what they'd say at the Police Station when you take that big old 1919 out and lay it on the countertop. I'm trying to work more OT so I can get one before they're gone.

They always have a sarcastic attitude about every single piece brought in. like it going to used agaist them someday. Of course they will foundile, look it over wonder if it FULL AUTO. and wishing they coulds afford one of those, HEHE.
I usally just remain quiet and not say a word.. Box it up and out the door.

Haha, I wonder if it'll even fit through thier protective barrier. If not I have visions of being drawn down on and being told to move away from the unholy weapon, so they can inspect it for my safety
Link Posted: 9/14/2005 5:58:14 AM EDT
Yep it would be cool to bring in somthing that doent fit under that peep hole. But i think the 1919 will fit under the slot, unless it has one of those anti aircraft sights ,hock.gif , if it was only a free state.

There are none. Hawaii has always been a democrat state. Even with its first "Republican" governor in ages Lingle has done shit and our senators are still Dems.

AMD-63 kits will be avalible SOON.
Price is way higher than they were a few month back.

Link Posted: 9/15/2005 1:20:44 AM EDT
Suka, the AMD barrels are 16"? Just wondering, I've seen the kits but the barrels looked so short I never gave it a second thought.
Link Posted: 9/15/2005 6:02:57 AM EDT
AMD extensions are readily avaliable as a 922r US compliance part. Silver solder or 4 welds as per BATF regs.

In the prosess of designing and building a Semi Micro Uzi Carbine Rifle (not Uzi Pistol) from a peice of sheet metal. It will have a OAL of about 27" one inch longer than legally required by Fed and Hawaii laws. 16" min carbine barrel. Completely 922(r) compliant. All NFA rules are also adhered to. Some of the SMG uzi kit can be used but not much. Looks like a fun project with a few snags as SMG Micro parts are rather expensive.

That why i need a Mini bolt from CDNN to cut up.

Link Posted: 9/23/2005 8:01:41 AM EDT
[Last Edit: 9/25/2005 5:05:28 PM EDT by SUKA]
It would be pretty easy for the MICRO UZI CARBINE RIFLE to be 922 compliant with only 4 parts that needs to replaced. But many new parts need to be made as the micro has specific sightes and top cover.

(1) Receiver*
(2) Barrel*
(3) Trunion*
(4) Bolt
(5) Op. Rod*
(6) Trigger
(7) Disconnector*
(8) Buttstock
(9) Pistol Grip*
(10) Magazine body*
(11) Mag Follower*
(12) Mag Floorplate*
(13) Trigger Group Housing
(14) Sear

*avalible options for USA parts

weaponeer.net is trying to get a group buy going for 1919s, $1150 plus shipping for a fully assembled allied armaments version. Trying to figure what approach to use with SWMBO since I just bought that krinkov. Will that upcoming ban on barrels affect the 1919s since they were originally made in the US?

HaHa , Nice ........toes ( i mean Kit )

I've got the AK bending Jig and MIG so bending and welding is no prob, just need the hyd. press for the flat and barrel. ......We're all set. As the title says it will be at least 2006 1st Q. I'm still in Asia.
Ive got the Micro Uzi and a Sci Fi Uzi in the planning stages right now. Any luck with a Lathe? and Press?

Actually called HPD today as to "how to reg a homemade" they were a little stumped. As Federal BATF does NOT require any marking on a homemade for "Personel Use". State of Hawaii (HRS134) will require; to the best of my knowledge Cal., S/N. (Anyways Ive got several manual Stamping kits "A-Z, 1-9" ) These are the same requirements needed to tranfer your home builts in the future, but also will need to include the Maker, City, State. All stamped at least 1/16 high and .003 deep.

So Ive got most of the legal tech stuff out of the way.

Good prices for USA parts and flats

No Form 6 appoved for Barrels, so if its being Imported it wont make it through Customs. Also, It wont matter if it originally of US manuf'd.

Lots of cheap 308 barrels are still avaliable. I dont think you can wear it out in semi form at Koko. with 5 rd links. 1 shot a sec.,, heheheheh......

I'd join in if I lived on Oahu, I've got two romie 7.62s coming a pair of amd65s and a milled hungarian kit, for later on I have four metric fal kits (two SAs, one imbel and a STG) in more boxes, then there's the two ar lowers I have to finish. So far I only have the assembly tools for the fals and ars. Only have the drill press, vise and bolt cutter/riveters for the AK.

maybe I'll come over to the Big Island . I'd love to get my hands on a FAL. Are thoose kit hard to build?
A FAL is on my wish list.

I saw one comparison once, a guy put the 1919 build at a 10, the fal at a 5 and the AR at a 1 w/ the aks coming in at 7 or 8. Seems like the most involved portion of the fal build is the headspacing. Of course all I've put together so far is a couple of ar15s so my perspective is limited.

1911's and AR's for me also. My Krink kit will be my first AK build, might buy a cheap romy for practice first.

NF Yeah I got the romys for my first ak builds. Suka that's a generous offer and it's no problem on putting you up here, just gonna have to defer it for two or three months. I'm at the tail end of a home remodelling thats been going on and off for the last year or so. Got the flooring guys coming in later this month, downstairs drywall, electrical and plumbing to tie up and together. Then the painting. Man it's not fun living in the same house you're tearing apart. By the time we're done it'll be time to start all over again! As far as fal parts, I've been lurking over at falfiles. I've bought two cheap SA kits from FWRA. They've seen some use but the barrels are serviceable. I figure they'd be my first builds. Only problem was they were shipped UPS. I also picked up a imbel kit from Dan's, they were carried much and shot little by the army of Chile. Shipping was via USPS priority. Then I got a refinished kit from Gunpartsguy, that one is mostly STG parts and only needs the upper receiver and headspacing to be ready to fire. Already has compliance parts and only needs the us receiver. That one was shipped USPS Priority. The problem w/ fals seems to be receivers, I'm waiting for nodakspud to come out w/ their new receiver. If that fails to materialize I'll bite the bullet and pick up a DSA receiver or two. One guy known as Court in Fla. has DSA and IMBELs on and off, I haven't looked into 0 and 80% receivers yet. If all else fails I'll pack it up and send it to Arizona Expert Arms.

ok,
so far i got the bolt cutters and will modify them really soon, and im ordering a 12 ton press jig to remove barrel pins, and the headspace gauges.

i cant find a 12 ton press locally but my friend and i are willing to split the cost of the 12 ton press w/shipping with other members that will be at the build party. the more people that chip in the less it will cost each person. im only building 2 kits and hes building one and cant see dropping $250(shipped) for the press that we will only need to use 3 times. let me know. thanks.

Is this the press for $250?
HF 12 Ton Press w/ Plates
$115 for shipping, Gosh..
what about the A frame which is on sale at $79
12 Ton A frame $79 but no Plates
or we can make one from a 12 Ton Hyd bottle.

Link Posted: 12/26/2005 10:46:41 PM EDT
suka,
thats the one.
the a-frame one still costs about the same to ship so we might as well pay just a little more and get the better one for the job. if we make one,the 12 ton bottle jack is $35 at home depot and the material and cost for having someone build one might be around the same price as buying one. id feel safer just buying the harbor freight model.
so far, i havent heard anyone else saying they are bringing anything but themselves and its a little disappointing. if everyone coming brings something it would definitely help. come on people wheres the spirit? lets make this build party the first of many more to come.
Link Posted: 12/27/2005 8:46:25 AM EDT
I got poke and beer. Whatever you guys need, I can get. Ive got barrel threading tools for 5.45 and 7.62 if anybody wants to thread some clinton era barrels. I get dealer discount through midway and brownells if youve got any ideas.
