The rochester one is nice, and has a nice pistol selection, although they didn't carry the breakfree I was looking for :(  But I got a new boresnake so it worked out. I've heard the watertown one is incredibly nice!

Upon seeing a $19.99 service special advertised for all brands of ATVs, I called the Cicero store, was told, "Yup, all brands!" Great! I drove up Saturday AM with my Polaris to find out A) their Service specialist is more of an idiot than I am, B) they have no parts in stock for pretty much anything. So I took it to Pardee Brothers (where I bought it) and had a comprehensive service performed. More $, but I suspect it will be done properly (unlike, Hmmm, I think I can maybe handle an oil change on one of these, but I have no manuals and no training.....) Oh yeah, they also have no ramps for loading/unloading. Whoops.

Inside, a decent selection of firearms. They say they have ~1500. Could be. A fair number of handguns, Glocks, Kimbers, Smith, Ruger, etc. No black rifles. One LTR in 300 SAUM for $649 on the used rack-though it looked unfired. No other "tactical" bolt guns observed. Had it been .308 W, it would have gone home with me;)   A decent selection of Surefire lights. Help is mostly clueless-but mean well. This is the best hunting store in the area, including Bass Pro. Dicks has sucked hard for a LONG LONG time, as will Galyans now that Dicks has assimilated them.

Brewerton Sports is toast. GEM Sport/Ra-Lins still occasionally has a number of black rifles in stock. You can still find excellent deals on their consignment guns, new guns are iffy on price (don't be afraid to make an offer!) and Mickey is top-shelf with archery tackle.

I get most of my camping stuff at the one in Tonawanda, and occasionally get ammo there if I don't have time to wait for a mail order shipment
I've never seen any "evil black rifles" either new or used, but plenty of shotguns and blot action and lever action rifles, and maybe a hunting rifle style semi auto rifle or two. Decent handgun selection

They opened a store in Middletown last spring.   I visited the store on a couple of occasions and frankly am less than impressed.  I have to say they are better than the knuckleheads at Dicks but not by much.  I was looking for a Springfield M1A at one point and saw on the SA website that Gander Mountain is a SA dealer.  Called them up to see if I could get an M1A through them and the dumbass gun department clerk was totally clueless.  After wasting time trying to explain to him what I was looking for I finally got to talk to his manager.  Bottom line is they don't sell "assault weapons"  - even though they have a rack full of Ruger Mini 14's and sell Glock and SA handguns.  They couldn't and wouldn't help me with an M1A.   Time to take my business back to Thruway Sporting Goods in Walden.

If you want to see a real outdoor store - go visit the Cabela's in Hamburg, PA!!!

just this week they opened one here in metro denver (aurora).  Their grand opening is this weekend.

I've already noted some of the things you mentioned are the same here.

I'm not overly impressed with them.

there are a few deals here and there, but for the most part, Sportsmans warehouse has them beat.

GM doesn't have a "gunsmith".
They occasionally have someone who can mount a scope and bore sight it, but we've already seen a fair nmber of patrons bring the shit they bought there, to us for repair or to get it done right.
GM cannot zero firearms. Ionically our prices are/were less to start with than GM, and Dennis doesn't  charge to mount and bore sight, if you buy the stuff from him. Some items we cannot and will not even try to compete with. They aell safes cheeper than we can buy them from Biekirch's or Jerry's Sports. The ATV service dept. is run by a chick with NO experience at all. Archery dept. is OK AFAIK.
GM has put a damper on sales, but after the novelty wears off they won't have done any more damage than Dick's or Wally-world.
