Anyone know of a gunsmith around Anderson that can check the headspace on a 25-06 for me? Thanks Bill |

The only (full service) gunsmith on your side of the state that I know and trust is Neil Keller in Decatur. KustomBallistics |

I'm getting a free float tube for my Colt very soon ... Any suggestions on a good smith in the Indy area who can install it properly without waiting months for it? I can take it to Neil Keller, but I really don't want to make the trip all the way to Decatur if I can avoid it. |
Maybe you can sucker one of the (cough, cough) six Arfcom guys here who went to the armorer's course. Four of them are probably pretty close to you. I'm a couple of hours away. |
That would be me.Rhino, what kind of tube are you thinking about? I can do the install eiither at my place or at the shop, whichever side of town is more convenient for you. And my rates are *really* reasonable. |

You guys are cool! It's a DPMS, part FF-01VCAR. It's a birthday present from a friend who kept hearing me say, "I want to freefloat this thing (the Colt I use for 3-Gun) someday, but I can't afford to do it." I need more friends like him! Okay ... does it matter that it has a compensator (Smith Ent) pinned to the front end? It's a 16" HBAR with a non-threaded muzzle. Will that have to come off? If so, I might as well have the muzzle threaded and get a Miculek/DPMS comp to slap on there too. |
Here's the link right to the FF tube: www.dpmsinc.com/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=FF-01VCAR Now for the bad news. You will have to remove the front sight base to install this tube. To remove the FSB, you will also need to remove the compensator. |

I was afraid of that! So a modest job has become a bit more ... involved. Now, a wise man would have had the free float tube installed before he had the compensator installed years ago, but then I am neither wise nor much of a man in this case! Ay, caramba! Sounds like I might as well ship the upper to Neil and have him thread the barrel and install a new comp after he removes the old to install the FF tube. Thanks for the proper link too... I edited my previous message to include it. |

M4M is spot on. He must not have slept through the entire armorers course... If it was just a float tube install, no problem. Heck, I'd even do a FST removal for a fellow Hoosier ARFcom'er. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance! |

Hey, the fact that you guys offered is very cool and I greatly appreciate it. You advice confirmed what I needed to know, so you were actually quite helpful. Now I just need to get another friend to give me a Miculek compensator for my birthday and I'm in business. Actually, while it's apart, I may get a different gas block installed. I kind of like the idea of one of those deals with the little piece of rail on top, so you can put a front sight there if you want, but you can also remove it if you so desire. |

Darrel's Custom Firearms in Cayuga is closer to you. He quoted me $60 to thread a bare muzzle plus $30 for dis/reassembly a while back. Sounded like he had to take the FSB off to put it in the lathe to thread it, so $90 should cover all of the work you need. You could maybe save all or part of the $30 if you had Shooter521 take it off the upper for you. I think he even had a Miculek comp in the case last time I was there. 765-492-3939 The barrel I had him turn down under the HGs came out nicely, but the turnarund time was a bit slow. |
That would be me.
