Okay, I know that different ranges are posted in the various stickies and stuff around here, and I have checked those out already. Still hasn't answered my question. So I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed somewhere and I missed it.
Here is what I'm wondering: I'm stationed in Camp Lejeune (live in Sneads Ferry right now). Is there a range within about an hour and a half of me that will let me shoot pistol from the holster/double taps/etc? Same thing for the rifle - a place where I can present the rifle to double taps/hammer pairs, etc? I really doubt I'll find any place where I can shoot while moving, but that's whatever. I'm just looking for a place I can actually train with my weapons instead of just to go to and plink around. Thanks for the help! |

Eastern North Carolina Firing Range in Goldsboro. www.encfiringrange.com Should be 45 minutes or so from Jax. The proprietor Ken Edwards is a great 2A guy and they are willing to accomodate your training goals. I was there today and some guy was firing full auto. Check them out on the web. 4073 |
| B&R Guns and Ranges on Lake Road in Havelock has IPSC type shoots on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. I haven't shot these in a while, spent the last few years as an over the road truck driver and haven't been able to get up for the 0800 start times since I came off the road, not real lazy just work nights. When I was involved in USPSA there was an area off to the side of the firing line where you could practice. I don't know if that is still allowed but the shoots are great. Some pistol only, some three gun, all fun. |
| It really just depends on how busy it is, If no one is using the tactical area you can do a lot of move and shoot there as long as you do it in a safe manner. If there is a lot of people needing to divide up that area then it gets a little harder. But if you can come before 1 PM on most Sundays we are usally not that busy and can work with you a litte. I would say, best bet is to come one weekend and try it out, we have a few memebers the drive up form Jacksonville often. |

I've said on here before, that one of the best kept secrets in Eastern NC is the Craven County Law Enforcement Officers Association range. It's in New Bern, which is a bit of a hike from you, but no further than Havelock or Goldsboro.
It's $100 for the first year to join, and then $70 each year after (unless you let your membership lapse, then you have to pay the $30 application fee again). If you are a certified NC LEO, the first year is $60, then $30 for subsequent years. They have a full range with three rifle ranges that go back to, I think, 200 yds (you can also shoot handguns on them), one dedicated 25 lane pistol range, and a skeet/trap area. There's a heated and cooled range house with a full kitchen, heads, and a classroom/meeting room. They also have gas grills outside for your use. To join, you have to attend a meeting, fill out an app, they vote on it (no one has ever not been accepted) and your in. You get the combination to the gate and the range house and can go whenever you want. There is an online calendar where you can reserve the range, so you're the only one there, and you can do whatever you want...draw from the holster, hammer pairs, controlled pairs, shoot while moving, what ever you want as long as you're shooting into the berm and being safe. The range is, first and foremost, an LEO training range, and LEO training trumps anything else. But, I think LEO training there is few and far between. Most times you go, you are the only one there. They have a dedicated bunch that does cowboy shoots and trap/skeet every Saturday morning till noon. I normally go Sat or Sun afternoon, pull the truck right up to the shooting line, unload my stuff and do what I want for as long as I want. It really is hard to beat. I've mentioned it a couple of time on here, but no one seems interested. I even mentioned having a HTF shoot there once, and the interest was nil....oh well....I tried. The next evening meeting to join is Tues, 14 Sept, at 1830. If you are interested, shoot me a PM and we'll hook it up....I already have another guy I'm taking that wants to join. ETA....Here's their website, check it out. CCLEOA Range |
