How come the little animated "do dad" tag charactors don't move around on my home computer?  They dance like wild Phil in Seattle at an all night hooker fest on my work computer.  How
Sorry Phil, I know nobody wants that vision in their head....

Animated Do-dad Character?

Nothing moving on this end.
Animated Do-dad Character?  Hey...I'm new.

OK...So what setting do I need to change in my computer to get these dudes to move?

I'm in the middle of loading ammo, so I'll check back in a bit.

I think the do-dads move as a function of java script or some such.

When you need the one minute answer, go to GD and they will hook you right up.

If you are using ZoneAlarm or some other software firewall, that could disable them also. What OS and browswer are you using?

Several things can do that. What browser are you using? Most have built-in support for .gif file types.

Try saving this do-dad   as a file (right click, save picture as ...) then open that file by double clicking it from explorer (not IE). If it don't dance then you've installed something that assumed the .gif file type and that may be affecting your browser behavior.

You can reset the file type from tools->folder options->file types but that is not advisable for non-geeks. Sometimes it just easier to uninstall whatever it was that hijacked your animated web experience.

That or you have a really slow computer...

I right clicked and saved the little green dude.  He doesn't move when I open it.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition
Internet Explorer 6
2.66 GHz  Computer

OH ya, I'm done reloading now.  250 rounds of 50 BMG sure does drain an 8 pound jug of powder.

What next?

Tools
Internet Options
Advanced

scroll down and look for Play animations in web pages under the Multimedia section - ensure this has a check mark.

and download Mozilla Firefox and stop using IE as much as possible.
www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/  It's free too.

You'll like firefox.

It's already checked in the Play animations in web pages.

The only firewall installed is the one that comes with XP.  Should I disable it?

When you saved the file did it save properly as a GIF or as a BMP?

If it saved as a BMP your Temporary Internet pages cache is full and you need to clear it.

To do so, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the General tab, and then click the Delete Files button.

It saved it as a GIF file.  I do, on occasion, empty my temporary files and cookies folders.
I'm running earthlink total access, that have anything to do with it?

OK, I got it to work.
I did as you said, cleaned out my temporary files and cookies.  Must of had too much crap in their.
They're all jump'n "like their heads were on fire and their ass's were catch'n"

Antivirus software blocking them?

Spyware might make an association issue.  Try running Ad Aware and Spybot search and Destroy. (both are free)

You can also do a mini-nuke it from orbit and try reseting IE's Defaults :
Tools
Internet Options
Advanced Tab
Restore Defaults
and Reboot.

Yeah you're paid up well in advance.

If you couldn't have gotten it to work you've got almost enough credit for me to just drop off a new PC complete with pre-installed pRon.

That Garand stock will look not so bad after 5 or 6 more coats of tung oil.

FYI, those animated .GIF files have nothing to do with javascript or anything external of the actual .GIF file

The frames are just stored as individual images in the file that the browser recognizes and just cycles through.  When you turn off the animations in the IE settings, IE will just show the first image/frame of the animation.

Hey, you volunteered. I quit that crap long ago.

"Hey, What do you do for a living."

"Ahh, I fight computers."

"Oh really!!, I have a Whizbang 4000 with internet Exploder and it crashes all the time. What do you think is wrong."

"Ahhh, I have no idea, could you leave me alone now?"

"Shoot, well what about the new SoundSmasher Infinity card, do like 'em."

"Oh, your talking about a PC. Well, good luck with that. They keep saying they'll get anti-gravity to work on of these days too."
