I live in Tulsa and I am interested in getting into comp shooting....anyone know how or who to talk to. I have not done any combat shooting of any sorts but would like to learn...any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Justin |

All you really need is a gun, a holster and 4 or so magazines and holders, and your ammo and you are ready to go. You can shoot a match (sometimes 2) every weekend if you want to travel to Kansas or Texas, and Oklahoma has a lot of matches on its own. There are two major organizations -- IDPA and USPSA. They have different rules, but the main objective to HAVE FUN!! Before you know it you will be addicted like the rest of us. Take a look at : uspsa.org, idpa.com, and okcgunclub.org (then click on Action Pistol) That should get you started. Patti |

Mostly OKC area. Before I started working at the gun range, Scott and I would go up to Tulsa and shoot the match at Red Castle Gun Club and travel down to Wichita Falls to shoot Double Tap Ranch as well. (They both have websites if you want to take a look.) However, I have just recently gone to working part time, so I am really excited to start shooting regularly again. Haven't had the chance to shoot at USSA in Tulsa yet, but am looking forward to giving the 3-gun up there a whirl in August or September. Bought a Rem 1100 to shoot 3-gun with (along with my Glock 34 and Colt AR-15), but then they cancelled the 3-gun matches at OKC Gun Club. Boo hoo! Just bought a .38 revolver (S&W 67) so I could start shooting the ICORE matches that replaced the 3-guns here, but I am guessing that, money and time permitting, whatever your sin-of-choice is you can find a match for it. At the risk of sounding a little OCD, I have all the IPSC matches in Oklahoma and Double Tap's match dates on my calendar. There is also the Steel Challenge in Ada, and the bowling pin matches in Hinton, if you are just interested in getting some trigger time in. (If you want the dates and towns, just let me know and I will e-mail them to you.) And before you get too impressed, Scott is pretty good, but he has been shooting all his life. I just started shooting regularly last year and I SUCK big time, but it is soo much fun, I don't care. If you decide to come down to OKC and shoot here, the match is on the first Saturday of every month. IM me before hand and Scott and I will meet you for breakfast somewhere. |
