Hello All,
I'm driving to Cape May in February for my buddy's Coast Guard graduation. I'd rather not have to come unarmed as I have a Michigan CPL which is valid in every state along my route aside from NJ. From what I've read, as long as your guns are registered (which mine are in Michigan and I have the appropriate paperwork), 15 rounds or less and are locked up out of reach I should be ok. Also, no hollow points (). I also believe that if anything happened I could likely be covered by FOPA as I won't be in NJ for an extended time (Maybe 6 hours including drive time).

Can anyone think of anything that I may have missed? Thanks!

See my post in your GD thread.
It might not be 100% factual, but you will get the idea about having weapons in your vehicle while in the state.

Good luck

That is not entirely true.
What you describe only covers the transportation of a pistol and ammunition.  However, your possession is still not justified.  You will be at risk if caught.

You are only allowed to transport a firearm into the Sheeples Socialistic Commonwealth of New Jerseykstan for purposes of "legal use" (target practice at a licensed shooting range, hunting, etc.).  And, you must proceed directly to the place of legal use and leave immediately afterward, along a reasonably direct route making only such deviations as are "reasonably necessary."  I fear that most NJ persecutors would not consider attending a USCG graduation to be a "reasonably necessary" deviation.

We just could not abide someone like you coming into our great State and possibly shooting one of our criminals.

Might want to consider Coast Guard regulations about having firearms on their property.  Some military bases do search your car pror to entering.  Just an FYI.
