If there was a rifle out there that shot 22lr, with a pistolgrip, detatchable magazine, flash hider and bayo lug, would it be an assault weapon? Everything I find online seems to be related to centerfire rifles...

No, because the law applies to semi-automatic CENTERFIRE rifles only. This allows for rifles such as the Rhineland Arms R22 to be sold in California. However, this does not allow for standard AR-15 type lower receivers with .22lr uppers. This is because they can still accept standard magazines and standard centerfire uppers. Note that this allows for any rimfire caliber, including .22 magnum, .17 HMR, etc.

Yea I'm not worried about AR lowers because I don't own one, I was just curious to see if the ArmiJager AP74 was a legit deal in CA.

I'd like to see the British Parker-Hale SAR-22.15 and SAR-22.15CAR make their U.S. debut

www.parker-hale.com/

Might not happen though because of the "non-sporting" features.hinking.gif

The only .22 cal rim fire firearms that are assault weapons in California are handguns.

Well...if you had a Roberti-Roos AR lower and never put anything other than a .22lr upper on it, it will still be an assault weapon.

Not meant as a thread hi-jack, but are .22lr high cap mags legal in CA?

Ah, just like centerfire mags. Crap, I was looking to buy new ones for a Ciener kit...guess that's a no-go.

Yep, if it holds 11 rounds its a babykiller.

A .22 rifle is an AW if the receiver is registered with the state as one.

Doesn't short barrel rifle, in any calibre, count as assault weapon ?

The question that I asked Bushmaster one year ago was the ability to purchase this

The lower receiver is not on the Harrott v. County of Kings decision AND the caliber was rim-fire.

The answer I received back from Bushmaster was a No GO, since the receiver can potentially accept a .223 upper and would be considered an assaut weapon by the Kassler decision.

But Bushmaster's argument is moot since Harrott supercedes Kasler right? I'm sure everyone's read this right? click here

Anyway, these are pretty nice though

RB Precision

and

Rhineland

No, that counts as an NFA rifle.

I thought the NFA part can be dealt with by paying the $200 federal stamp tax but the CA DOJ short barrel part needs a seperate license just like mechine guns, which is impossible to get.
