In November 2006, Colorado Multi-Gun held its first match at the Camp Guernsey ARNG base in Wyoming. We ran three carbine and pistol stages as the main match, and one "precision rifle" stage as a side match. One of the stages was a run on the back of a commercial HWMMV shooting reactive targets down the convoy assault course.
The CG ARNG base is a shooter's dream, and there isn't anything we've asked to do that they have refused yet, which is unprecendented coming from civilian ranges.
Although limited essentially to a day's shooting just like local matches, I think the stages we had rivalled what shooters get at the best major 3-Gun and multi-gun matches-- movement, terrain, varying reactive targets. And I've never received a UXO briefing at a civilian range.
Camp Guernsey is approximately three hours North of Denver. Competitors can take advantage of on-base billeting if they want to stay over-night, and they can eat at the combined mess hall, both at good prices.
We had 27 shooters come from as far as South Dakota and Colorado Springs, and about half shot the precision-rifle side-match.
Details of future match schedules at Camp Guernsey are online at
ColoradoMultigun.comThis is a fantastic opportunity and who knows how long we'll be able to shoot here. Anyone in this region of the country should try to make one or more of these matches.
The next match is coming up on 3/11.
