Has anyone gone to the CCW classes at Fisherman's Marine? Are they still doing them? I don't see it on their calendar. Thanks

The last time I checked the IPSC orientation class at TCGC counts for your CCW application. If your looking for a class with actual range time and the benifit of being able to shoot all the matches it's a good deal. It does not cover any legal issues but the class at Fisherman's might not either.

I think both Gun Broker stores (Tigard and Clackamas) hold CCW classes, as does the Sportsmans Warehouse.  Most of the local sheriff's offices also hold them.  I took my class at the Multnomah County Sheriffs Office in NE Portland.

sheriff office gives it every week for like $20 and you can make your appointment to have your mug shot taken at the same time

Are there any CCW classes in the portland area that do not require weapons handling?  (Sounds weird, but I have a friend that has hearing issues, and shooting aggrevates it.  He's been shooting handguns and rifles for years, just doesn't have a CHL yet.)

I'm pretty sure most of the CHL classes do not require weapons handling.  The ones offered by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office specifically tells you not to bring a gun.  I'm pretty sure the same is true for the Sportsmans Warehouse class and the Gun Broker class.  OR law doesn't require a qualification shoot or anything like that, so the typical class structure is about 2-2.5hrs of class room instruction only.

From the Oregon Revised Statutes...

(f) Demonstrates competence with a handgun by any one of the following:

     (A) Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the State Department of Fish and Wildlife or a similar agency of another state if handgun safety was a component of the course;

     (B) Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course if handgun safety was a component of the course;

     (C) Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by law enforcement, community college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or a law enforcement agency if handgun safety was a component of the course;

     (D) Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, reserve law enforcement officers or any other law enforcement officers if handgun safety was a component of the course;

     (E) Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a handgun through participation in organized shooting competition or military service;

     (F) Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state, unless the license has been revoked; or

     (G) Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a firearms instructor certified by a law enforcement agency or the National Rifle Association if handgun safety was a component of the course;

The class at The Gun Broker does not require weapons handling. It's semantics but they will also tell you that it's a CHL class, not CCW because it is not a license to carry any weapon concealed, only handguns.
