First off, love the forums, you all are a very knowledgeable bunch. I bought my first AR a few months back, being in CA, it is equipped the the magazine release that requires a bullet tip/pen tip/thin tool to release it. Thanks for any help in advance! |

So easy, All you need is an original button and spring. Heat up buton with blow dryer back out screw with allen wrench. Depress as far as you can in while rotating otherside counter clockwise.

You just need a standard mag catch button and spring like here:
http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/index.aspx?cat=1799 It's such an inexpensive part, the shipping to do mail order would be more than the part cost. I'd see if one of your local gun shops might have the part or for just a few dollars more, get the whole mag catch assembly. |

Further, you can get a Prince50 lock that you can use both in CA and out, and the conversion is a simple twist of an allen wrench. This is the toploading method. You could also get a B15 that goes over the prince50 and makes it a bullet button style mod that is very easy to switch out when you get to a free state.
Also, Radd just came out with the AR Raddlock that does the above, but this is new and tough to find in stock. |

Looking at their website, it looks like they have the radlock in stock right now. I have the B-15 and essentially, it is the regular mag release setup with an extra hole drilled into the mag release button which is threaded. Then the cover piece gets screwed into this threaded hole making the mag release require a tool. So its a process that takes 4 seconds to put the BB on and 4 seconds to take off. |
