I know it has been covered before, but the archives are not working for me and I can't find anything with the normal search function.

I am ordering a .22 suppressor (YHM Mite - thanks Marty) and need to get the barrel on the Savage that I have ordered (thanks again to dmgangl for letting me shoot his at the hometown shoot) threaded.  I am getting the heavy barreled synthetic stock Savage Mark II (I will post picks when all is said and done.)

I was looking into patriot arms, but I think their website says $150 to get a barrel threaded.  I can convince myself that it would be such a good job, that it would be worth $55 less than I am paying for the entire rifle.  Jeff Green has been recommended before, but I think someone posted that they have had bad experience's with Mr. Green, although I could be wrong about that.

So who else is out there and what do they charge?

ETA:  I am in the Duluth/Lawrenceville area.

Jeff at the Firing Lane did my 10/22 and did a fine job.

I have heard of some complaints from others but I dont know any of the details.

I'd take it to Patriot just to be on the safe side.  Jared only charged me $100 for threading my .22-250 and it was ready within a week.

I am in the same boat. There are a couple of local smiths who have the stuff to do the work but have never threaded anything for a suppressor. Kind of makes me nervous about being a guinea pig.

Jeff Green did my Savage. Overall I'm pleased with it. I've seen better, but it's a decent job. He said he had to build a jig to do it since the barel can't be pulled.

The threads are concentric but I'm not real happy with the condition of the threads. They should have been cleaned up some after cutting. They're cut well, but they needed finished (a slight burr feeling to them if you run your finger on them.)

If you're in Duluth, I'd recommend him. He also did a fast job for me since I was going to a shoot that weekend. I dropped it off on Wednesday and picked it up the next Friday.

Isn't it pretty simple to "pull the barrel" on a Savage?

Not on the Savage MKII. It's pressed in, or pinned in place. The receiver and barrel are te same diameter and look like one piece.

If you were closer, I'd suggest Todd Orander.  He's across the river in North Augusta, South Carolina.  He's a machinist that worked for SWR and SOCOM MFG, so when it comes to threading barrels for suppressors, he's the man.

I am going with Patriot Arms $100 for a 22/45.

If Jered will do it for $100-120, it's worth the extra and the drive, and the wait if there is one. Jered and David are both perfectionists. It will come out perfect from those guys.

Gazaway does threading in Alpharetta. Just make sure the threaded length matches the spec of the suppressor manufacturer. I have several cans for 22's each one needs a slightly different length. I had to come up with one that would work ok with all (first baffle clearance).

Sounds like the Savage version of the worthless Remmy 710.  Hope the Savage is better than the Remmy!

They said there is a week turnaround right now.

I talked to Jered on Friday to ask about building a rifle for me.  He said they were pretty busy right now.  That is why there is a wait.  He threaded the barrel on my Savage a few months ago and had it done the next day.  You will not be disappointed.

The 710 is a budget bolt rifle made for deer hunters, the Savage MkII us a .22 bolt rifle.
My first recommendation for anybody local is Jered and Dave at Patriot. There work is awesome and like Kletz mentioned-the wait is worth going alone because there are more than a few toys to play with....
