Hi,
Was wondering if anybody knows of a good machine shop that would be willing to make a custom part.  I'm specifically talking about the barrel clamp shown in the picture.  It's for a reproduction of a Vietnam SEAL shotgun I'm making.  The part could be milled or even wire EDM'ed.  I was a machinist for 10 years, but don't have access to a shop anymore.

For Wire EDM, there's Dynamic Engineering (my former employer, I was a Wire/Sink EDM specialist) , Accu-prompt and Automated. They're all right around the Coon Rapids/Ramsey/Fridley area.

Is it steel or aluminum?

IMO, a better option would be to find a place that does waterjet or abrasive waterjet.
Should be cheaper than WEDM, as you really wouldn't be needing the tolerance of a WEDM, unless you just have them 1 pass wire it, that would get you within a couple thou anyways.

I forgot to state that I planned on using steel.

I don't have any experience with waterjet, but tolerances in the 0.005-0.010 range would be close enough.

Waterjet should be able to hold that pretty easy from what I know of it. Just throwing that out as I know EDM is rather expensive, IIRC something like $100/hr for setup and $70/hr for machine run time.

There's 3D CNC in Hutchinson  www.3dcnc.com/ one of the owners is into guns.  They do all the wire EDM work for the company I work for.  I dont know there rates though.
