We did this once in the Texas HTF
I'll start 1. Struts in Jacksonville for wings The jalapeƱo bottle caps are worth it alone Good beer on tap and good variety of local brews by the bottle 2. El Agave --Oxford/Coldwater Awesome Mexican and the salsa bar has great variety and heat Very affordable |

Davenport's Pizza Traci's Taco Casa Daniel George Birmingham is an up and coming foodie city. There are tons of great choices. You forgot Rojo in Birmingham. Gadsden - Top o' the River, also locations in Guntersville and Anniston - good fresh seafood Fort Payne - Bar-B-Que Place, get the Jo Jos. Potato slices dipped in chicken finger batter, deep fried to perfection Trussville - Salvatore's Pizza, good slice of pie Moe's Original BBQ, I rank it pretty high, multiple locations around Birmingham Birmingham - Fat Sam's, hole in the wall sandwich shop. Mighty tasty subs Al's Greek and Mediterranean, huge loaded BBQ potatoes, cheap and good meals Jacksonville - Rocket, old fashioned burgers and BBQ Tuscaloosa - Archibald and Woodrow's BBQ, vinegar sauce, no frills Q |

Hoover:
Chinese: Black Pearl off 280 in the Collonade Shopping center, best "traditional" menu I've found. They just opened another location off Lakeshore. Sushi: Osushi Exit 10 off I-459 on the outskirts of Target shopping center, next to Beef O'brady's. 1/2 price "special" rolls and hot Sake on Tuesdays. Japanese: Shono's next to Dales in Hobby Lobby/Big Lots shopping Center Us31 near the Galleria Mall. Home Cooking, with a taste unlike any of the chain Japanese places, at a reasonable price. They have a Chicken or Shrimp bowl that runs about $6. |
|
Boaz: Mill Street Deli (good sandwiches and chicken salad), Los Arcos (good Tex-Mex, get the fiesta bowl), Bubba-ritos ( if you like Moe's Southwest then this is a more small town version of it), JaMokas (great coffee shop, try the muffuletta), Dale's BBQ (no frill's BBQ)
Albertville: TJ's Hot Wings (don't know if they are still around the best hot wings I've ever had) Snead's Crossroads (literally middle of nowhere): Al & Micks Barbeque (one of things you just have to experience) Auburn: The Hound (great drinks and meatloaf, try the burgers first, they have a seasonal menu), Little Italy's (good cheap pizza and pitchers of cold beer), Hampton's (pricy steakhouse but worth the money), Amsterdams (pricey but good food, the Apple-brined Pork Chop is a great choice), Tacoritas (awesome tacos for cheapish), Village Wok (only place I get Chinese), Avondale (just a bar with great drinks and service, dress business casual, I personally recommend the sazerac, know what you want because they don't have a menu), Louie's (amazing chicken fingers), Veggies To Go (great home cooking), Panny George's (they have Kool-Aid.... Need I say more?) Gadsden: Mater's Pizza (there is a branch in Albertville, the manicotti is great) Huntsville: Below the Radar (The lamb chops are tender and seasoned perfectly) Guntersville: The Rock House (casual dining, everything is good, make reservations though) |

Quoted:
Rusty's BBQ for ribs or Old Smokey BBQ for BBQ baked potatoes and pork sandwiches. Leeds I'm a fan of Rusty's BBQ. I'm going to add three places, one in Livingston and two in Greensboro. Livingston - the Bakery. Same daily lunch specials each week, always packed. Wednesdays are chicken and rice or fried catfish Greensboro - Mustang Oil, hole in the wall meets greasy spoon. Tender steaks, awesome sweet potato fries. Pie Lab, hipster type entrƩe foods, awesome pie. |
|
Ate at the Grand Bohemian around Christmas. The food was good but service was so-so. Understandable being a new place. I plan on going back after they get their feet wet.
Slice is another good place for pizza and craft beer. and these next two are out of Bham but definitly worth a try if you are in the area. The Chopping Block in Springville has the best steak for the money and Louie's Pickles in Odenville. |

Come ride with me in my county. I can bring you to a dozen without having to look. I'm partial to one that sets up outside one of the Mexican grocery stores in the Kilpatrick area. They have a seasoned pork that is phenomenal. However I've never been disappointed with any of them. I do get odd looks pulling up in a marked patrol unit though. Quoted:

Dekalb. Are 5 or 6 within a couple miles of each other near the dekalb/Marshall line. So far they have all been safe. Few guys sell out of their pickups outside some of the plants. Quoted:

............................. Guntersville: The Rock House (casual dining, everything is good, make reservations though) If you make reservations make sure they aren't having live entertainment outside on the patio. This typically draws large crowds that overwhelm the staff and the food and service tank. Otherwise it's good. |
|
Quoted: Found another one in Livingston the last time I was down. Diamond Jim's steakhouse. I'd rate it as one of the top 3 steakhouses I've ever eaten at. MIL lives in Livingston and we eat there every time we go over. It's surprisingly good for such a small town. If you are in Dothan try the Conestoga Steak House on Montgomery Hwy. just south of Academy Sports. |

Quoted:
Black Pearl in the Collonade, Hoover, best "traditional" Chinese we've had. They just opened a 2nd location on Lakeshore across from Sams in the old Lone Star location. Zapopan, best family run Mexican joint, Calera. There is also a Zappopan in Montevallo. Good grub. I don't remember if I've mentioned them, but Yaya's at the cross roads going into Montevallo is good. Open Wednesday-Saturday. |
