Be sure to bring lunch and a change of clothes because we will be getting wet.

Be sure to bring your ruck and make it’s waterproofed

We will also be doing a swim test

And get a actual water per off bag and put your gear in it.

A waterproof sandbag is still gonna sink, so don't have one in your ruck.

Bring a change of clothes, boots etc.

Yes, you cannot fool Archimedes, so don't try. @Ben was right. @FREEFALLE7 is right. Gravity works and dry sand is still heavy.

Gravity is the law

Dont feel bad in Marine Scout Swimmer my Viking pack wasn't very waterproof, and don't take your fins off until you reach shore.

The sandbar was deceiving, especially and stepping off a 8-10 drop at 0200 in the morning.

It was old and had leather straps with no quick release, I snapped it into my sling rope and popped the inflator on my UDT vest.

I made it to more shallow water and pulled it to me, dumped the water out and made it to shore.

Luckily my PRC77 was in a waterproof bag and still worked.

There is camping in the general area. Check here for more information. There are several primitive sites very close.

I'll work on getting there.

Secondly, the campground just to the south has a group campground, perhaps getting that for Friday and Saturday would be good, @alphajaguars. We did that at the VA boating course and it was total fun (in terms of four miles+ of swimming).

I’ll throw it out to the masses to see if they want to camp out.

I’m just over an hour away so I didn’t even think of that.

Right now, I’m not sure about a group camp. No one on the Signal group has said they want to camp that weekend

I’d bring my boy, but he would not participate and I’d be spending my time watching him and not involved in the training

Homeyclaus Jr. is the one getting flung into the RHIB in the APC animated gif going around. And he was already at the unmotivated "no thanks" stage to anything and everything - I made him go. This time when he heard me chatting to Mrs. Homeyclaus about possibly going he piped up and said "can I come?"

If we were to do it, I’d figure Friday night.

I probably won’t be camping.

I just saw the thread in GD.  If my schedule allows I would love to attend.  I usually camp the Badin lake side of Uhwarries on the weekends when i can and know LOTS of great primitive sites my favorite being just above Moccasin Falls downstream from Badin dam.  Bottom of deep water trail is great as well and on the water but 4wd is a MUST and full size trucks can have a hard time due to the narrow trail.

This would be my first APC class and I hope i can join you guys.  Will know for sure by mid week.

Going to attempt to bring my son along tomorrow. I’d love to get him more involved, but I’m not sure how much he’s be able to actually do, or even be interested in.

Recon was successful. King’s Point has a fantastic area for the class.

Be there no later than 9am next Saturday morning as we have a full day of awesome training ahead of us.

You need to be wearing boots, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt. Be sure to have a waterproofed ruck and a change of clothes for when we’re done.

Bring lunch and drinks, too.

He might be, but he has autism so he’s not your typical 17 year old to hang out with.

Pro tip - have your ruck packed with the gear you’d use for a 72 hour trip. MAKE SURE ITS WATERPROOFED. It should be anyway as you never know what type of weather you’ll hit, and there is nothing worse or scarier than getting you and all your gear soaked on day 1 and the temperature starts dropping.

I'm about 90% sure I'll make this event, It'll be good to see those of you whom I've met before. What's the status of camping? if there's something organized, that's great, if not, my shop is in Midland and I already have sleeping bags and pillows there for overnight stays.

Boots, long clothes, a dry bag, and 72 hours of provisions is all that's necessary?

Anyone know water temps?

Camping is not organized for this one. There is a campground and primitive sites within a mile of where we’ll be.

Ruck should be packed for a 72 hour event, with whatever you need for that timeframe. Weight should be 45lbs. Make sure it’s waterproofed.

Hopefully no lightning - those are a bit harder to fix than heat injuries next to a body of water.
