GUN SHOW BILL WILL COME OUT OF COMMITTEE TODAY

SB 947, the Daley Gun Grab Gun Show Bill will most likely sail through the House Judiciary Committee Today on its way to the floor for a vote.

This bill is very bad for gun owners in that it:

---- Allows the State Police to create a new background check system that could consist of anything the State Police felt like including such as fingerprints, mug shots, DNA samples, financial records...the possibilities are endless.

---- Will increase the current 24-hour/72-hour rifle/handgun waiting periods to 3 business days.  What that means is that if you were to buy a gun on a holiday weekend, you could wind up waiting up to 6 days to pick it up.  This provision would cover rifles, shotguns, and handguns.

---- Any paperwork generated by a gun show sale would have to be kept by YOU.  If you lost your paperwork, you'd be subject to a 1 year prision sentence.

So...what does all this have to do with fighting crime?  Nothing.  What does it have to do with hassling law-abiding gun owners?  Everything.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:  There is no hope of stopping this bill in the Daley-owned Judiciary Committee.  Therefore, it is very important that you call your State Representative and your State Senator and tell them that you oppose SB 947.  Be sure to be polite.  If you do not know who your Rep or Senator is, go to this web site: http://www.legis.state.il.us/ then click on the "Legislator Lookup" link on the lower right side and follow the on-screen instructions.

GOOD NEWS FOR GUN OWNERS - BUT YOUR ACTION NEEDED

Yesterday, the Illinos Senate passed House Bill 515.  This bill aims to protect the privacy of gun owners by requiring law enforcement officials to notify you if any of your guns had been subject to a trace investigation.  It would also require any related records to be destroyed if the investigation is closed without any charges being filed.

This bill passed on the House by a 113 to 1 vote and 35 to 22 in the Senate.  Clearly, this is a very popular piece of legislation.

Unfortunately, some of Daley's pals are pressuring Governor Blagojevich to veto the bill. Why?  Mainly spite.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:  Call Governor Blagojevich's Office and politely...we repeat...politely tell the person on the other end of the phone that you support House Bill 515 and that you hope Governor Blagojevich will sign this important piece of legislation into law.

Please be polite.

This is a good bill...it deserves to be signed.

PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION ON TO YOUR FRIENDS AND PLEASE POST IT TO ANY AND ALL INTERNET BULLETIN BOARDS TO WHICH YOU MAY BELONG

SB0947 was amended for a third time today and sent back to Rules, plus the deadline was extended until May 23. I couldn't find the amended version anyplace, so I have no idea what this version says.
