Chocolate theif?  That's too funny.

Back to the original post.  I've never heard of a 50 cal 1911, but it sounds like it would have a pretty high cool factor... assuming it ran better than your typical 1911 .  Now, that should bring about some serious flaming.

Don't know much about the round but the "Launcher" of the .50GI is a TOP OF THE LINE pistol made by Vic Tibbets.  They aren't exactly "cheap".

I am pretty sure the 50AE has a much longer casing and therefore would hold more powder and  launch the .50 cal bullet at much higher velocities.  If memory serves me correctly the 50GI 1911 runs about $2,500 and you get a 45ACP barrel and mags as well so you can switch between the two calibers.

....both are rebated rim cartridges....the AE is a much longer case and though not called a "Magnum" it sure as hell is hot shoots like one.  The 50 GI is probably a much softer round than the AE but that doesn't mean it wouldn't knock the snot out of someone right quick.

those are REALLY pretty guns, by the way

.50ae translates to 12.7x33mm while the .50gi looks like it is about 12.7x23mm.  and the gi only moves from around 700 to 900fps depending on load while the ae moves close to 1400fps with some loads.
