i have a USP .45 FS that doesnt seem to like silver bear hollowpoints. im assuming they are very friendly to various sorts of ammo and want to make sure its not a problem with the gun. lately when i chamber a round, the slide stays back about a quarter of an inch, and i can cycle thru 3 or 4 rounds with the same effect, until the slide fully closes. a lot of times i can re-insert the ejected rounds and slide will close normally and they will fire. ive shot wolf, winchester whitebox and silvertips, and silver bear out of my gun and the only problems ive had is the silver bear. i personally dont buy their 9mm anymore as it jams my sig 226 all the time. im hoping its the ammo. |

I had the exact same problems with mine. I was using Wolf ammo. Made the mistake of buying 1000 rds of it before I tested it in my handgun. Needless to say I have 980 rds of .45 ammo I could'nt use. Poor me, I had to buy a 1911 so I could shoot my old ammo. I have never attempted to fire steel case ammo again in the HK. I've never had a problem with any brass cases. |

the way i see it is if i spent that much money on it the gun should work with everything, in all situations. silver bear was the only ammo ive ever had problems with in this gun, i just want to know if the problem is something else, thats pretty much the only HP ammo ive use other than silvertips and thats been maybe two boxes. my regular plinking ammo is whitebox ball. basically i want to know if my guns doesnt like HP's or just silver bear HP's. |

QuietShootr, Junk ammo runs OK through my Norinco 1911 project pistol. It has a Kart NM barrel, but, it was throated to shoot most anything - accurately. Well, as accurate as the operator of the pistol can be at a given moment. I agree, I wince when I think about putting regular fuel through my Porshe of handguns. Tried some third world gas (Wolf - on sale) and she would not run well at all. You know after the initial purchase shock, you think you can cheap out on ammo for practice, you can be somewhat cheap, but not third world cheap. |

From Another Site. OK..Let's get it straight. To start, Wolf Ammo is exactly what it is--CHEAP AMMO! Nothing more, nothing less! I'm so sick of all the B/S. I have fired TENS of THOUSANDS of rounds of Wolf Ammo in everything from pistols to fully automatic rifles with nothing more than a few 'cook-offs' (pulled the trigger and there was a second delay before it discharged). I'm far from your average shooter in that I shoot usually between 3,000 and 5,000 rounds combined between my various guns every weekend! I've heard everything from “you shouldn't use it because it smells bad” to “it will make your gun blow up!” Here's the facts: You do get a slightly brighter discharge and more powder residue after shooting. Nothing that a little Hoppes can't remove. This doesn't hurt your gun! Its obvious to me alot of shooters look at cleaning their firearms like they do changing the oil in their car-- every so many months or so many miles. I'm gathering this from lame comments like: “if you use Wolf you'll have to clean your firearm more often!” You should clean your firearm after every shooting session! I don't care what brand of ammo you use or if its 10 rounds or 1,000. I've fired at least 20,000 rounds of Wolf Ammo in an HK .45 USP compact and over 12,000 rounds in a newer GLOCK 27 with absolutely no problems. Many of these sessions were over 1,200 rounds between cleanings. NO jams, NO misfires, and the guns are still like new. I believe that most of these jamming problems (not all) are because of improper cleaning and maintenance...and to the guy saying his GLOCK "failed to feed, the slide would not close on a reload, and it failed to fire ----all after firing only 500 rounds"---buddy, trust me, you got mechanical problems it isn’t the ammo--check your warranty! As far as you clowns complaining about the smell-- guns weren't made to smell good! True, there’s a little more smoke, and a different smell to the stuff, but I can't say it’s any worse than any top quality carry ammo. That statement is totally absurd--like saying: I don’t like shooting my gun because of the loud bang it makes! Come-on, Give me a break! You wear ear protection don’t ya? Well, if the smell is THAT bad, get yourself a set of nose plugs to match, or rub a little cologne under your nose since you HAVE to smell good smells at the range! Another group of folks refuse to shoot anything but what they carry in their firearms because “they want to make sure they practice appropriately. They don't want any changes in their point-of-impact between practice and any potential real-life incident in which they find themselves." NEWS FLASH FOLKS---Do you think our armed forces are using top quality Winchester carry ammo while they are training? NO!! According to these clowns our armed forces aren't training 'appropriately'! Most police departments use a cheap grade of ammo for practicing! You obtain practice with a firearm through firing. LOTS of firing! You do not have to have your expensive brand of hollow point carry ammo to practice at the range on paper targets. The only thing that is critical to practicing is using the same weight of round. If you carry a 230gr round then practice with a 230gr round. It’s not that hard to figure out! If your firing is sooo bad with a brand of ammo other than what you carry--then you shouldn't even own a firearm! Next you have what I call the 'All-American Shooters'--this class of folks only fire American made ammo. The minute they hear Wolf Ammo is made in Russia they toss it. Oh well, to each is their own. Of course...then you see them leaving the range in a Toyota! The last issue involves the accusation of guns blowing up due to Wolf Ammo. Here's what I know. In my experience with firearms. I’ve only seen a few handguns blow up. One involved Remington- FMJ’s, another CCI- FMJ’s, and the last was a reload. I myself haven’t seen any guns firing Wolf Ammo blow up and even if I did it wouldn’t change my opinion of their product. Not when I’ve seen guns loaded with so-called ‘better quality’ ammo in them blow up. Like I’ve said --- I’ve fired Wolf in HK’s, GLOCK’s, Kimber’s, Sig’s, Rugers, and others with no problems. Do I carry it in my guns? No. I like the stuff for target shooting, have used it for years, and will continue to use it. The last thing to add is this....Wolf is one of the few ammo companies who offer a money back guarantee. If you don’t like the crap quit complaining, send the unused portion back to them and you’ll get your 7 bucks a box back. Pretty simple………… |
