I went shooting this morning and had a problem with my Springfield 1911a1.
The firing pin stop fell out part way and jammed up the gun, I put it back but this has never happened before. I got the gun used from a friend he didn't shoot it much maybe a few hundred rounds and I only shot it maybe 150 rds. I'm wondering if the firing pin spring is weak and it didn't hold the firing pin back with enough pressure. Any other thoughts. thanks |
SA uses a titanium firing pin and subsequently a lighter firing pin spring. I'd replace the titanium firing pin with a steel firing pin (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1323/Product/1911-AUTO-FIRING-PIN)
And I'd replace the firing pin and recoil springs (they should be changed in tandem), my preference is a 18.5 recoil spring and an extra power firing pin spring. |
