I've had Kimber, Springfield and Colt and would suggest Colt.  New Rollmark series 70 if you can get it.  New Rollmark Series 80 as second choice.  Springfield loaded model as third (but still excellent) choice but get the extractor and slide stop replaced with ones of forged steel.  Colt's are good to go, but benefit with addition of night sights.

That is enough for a nice Sprinfield or Colt.

Nice suggestion, but unfortunately its not possible with a $800 budget. I suggest a Springfield Loaded model #PX9109L or Kimber 25th Anniversay Custom. The SA can be found easily for around $630 NIB and the Kimber for $100 more.

Not in his price range. My dealer has GSR's priced around $1100.

booniestomper...

What is your intended use for the pistol?

Range Weapon?

Carry?

Competition?

Investment?

I saw a springfield in the EE for less than $500......swap the slide stop/hammer/sear/hammer strut, and you're good to go. Probably have enough money left over for night-sights.

MT,  I 'll use it for shooting.  mostly range, carry and investment, but the real reason is because I don't have one.

So you are looking to fill the void....becareful 1911 pistols are known to enjoy the company of their own design.

Your next step is to choose barrel/slide length.

Finish? Blue, Stainless, Parkerized, etc.

I'd look very hard at the Kimber used market.  I have a Series I that I picked up used for $500 +/- and it hasn't failed to go bang yet, despite the fact that I shoot only my only cast lead reloads and don't believe in cleaning.

MT,  I,d like a full size with a parkerized or blue finish.  I feel my wallet getting thin already.

I havae 3 1911's and would only consider my Valtro as nice. IMO, 800 fun tickets wont buy something nice but it will get you something functional (hopefully).

Your life is worth the extra dough, trust me.  If it's not, for about $350 give or take, you can look for a (this one's for Lumpy ) for a Norinco.  Great values, sights suck though.

Since you want the bells and whistles but don't want to pony up the extra clams, might as well go with a Kimber - the Kmart of customized pistols.

After pawing over almost every 1911 the gun shop had, (and they had alot), I went with a Kimber Eclipse Custom II.  It was just a little over budget but you know how it is, too painful to wait.   I can't wait to try it out, and I wish I had pics, but no camera.  Thats my little update and thanks for all the input.   Tim
