You can tell when a German SIG was proofed (which is done right after it’s assembled) by the proof marks on the bottom of the slide near the muzzle. You’ll probably see what looks like a squashed bug, which is the Kiel proof house, a stylized eagle with an small “N”, which apparently is the type proof done, and a date code consisting of two letters which represent the last two digits of the year proofed. Here are the codes: A = 0 B = 1 C = 2 D = 3 E = 4 F = 5 G = 6 H = 7 J = 8 K = 9 (note that the letter “I” is omitted) If your SIG doesn’t have proof marks, it was assembled here in the states (though possibly with some German made parts). |
