Retail for those guns was right around 1k, give or take a little. Right now the market is still very soft for high end bling like a Python, but I'd guess your pistol is worth somewhere between $1,200-$1,400 given it's low mileage. Problem is I doubt you could get more than 1k for it right now. As always, YMMV.

thanks for the info. have not had an issue of the gun list mag lately. usually would look in there for an appx. value. not bad though. seeing as i paid 675 nib for it. don`t intend on selling this baby. will be passed down, and hopefully, further down the blood line.

$1,000 is around the LOWEST I have seen at the gun shows (never see any in local shops), and those looked like well-used pieces to boot.

My first gun turning 21 was a 6" Colt Python bought new in ~1981-82. Damn my ex-wife and damn me for ever letting her get her grubby paws on it before the divorce!

An IM to me and he could get 1300 for it immediately if he was selling .   (if it wasnt so close to Christmas time that is –– darnit)   ––-    I realize the OP isnt selling ,  but if he was, he would not be out of line asking $1500.     True, its not the absolute best market out there for high end revolvers right now,  but there are still plenty of people out there who like nice things.       When you think of some of the other things $1500 buys,  like maybe a run of the mill piston driven AR, or a decent 1911,   $1300 - $1500  for a like new Python is still a decent deal

I look at Colts like this - they are fine revolvers that will do nothing but go up in value IF they aren't shot much. You've got a collector's piece in that Python. Whether it retains it's value or whether you want to make a shooter out of it all depends your preferences and wants.
I've got three Colt revolvers. One was my dad's, one was an old friend's 32/20, and one is a Detective Special I picked up in great shape for a great price.
I've not fired any of them in over 4 years.
I may someday but it will only be a few out of each!

I gave $900 for a shiny mid-90s 4" Python a couple months back. Original grips, no box or papers.

Found a LNIB circa 1968 6" blued Python back in april ...........locally for $1200 and was VERY happy to pay EXACTLY what the seller wanted!  Had just returned from a big Show in Nevada where that same gun would have been $2K or near that.

Colt Pythons and Diamondbacks have ALWAYS been high on the used market. Even when they were still being produced.

Go to Gunbroker.com

Go to revolvers

Search on 'stainless python'

See prices.  Almost always a little higher than you'll see tossed about in this forum though some are pretty close to the mark.

They've seemed to go up in price over the past few years.

Beautiful revolver.

I happen to be looking at gunbroker constantly right now as I am looking to get  a python or two.

Based on everything I am seeing on gunbroker, which I know is not the be all end all of market pricing, is that your python could with basically no trouble at all fetch you 2 grand in an auction.
