So it was time to replace te recoil spring in my Kimber Tactical Pro II (4inch barrel). I ordered the Wolff extra power recoil spring. It came with a smaller diameter spring as well. What is this spring for? I will post pics when I get a chance.

Firing pin spring.

So I got them both installed. Firing pin spring is a PITA. Anyone have any tips on making installation easier?

What part are you strugging with? I just use a ball point pen to push the firing in so I can take off the slide stop. Just don't shoot the spring in your eye.

Edit: I just realized that you have a Series II gun with the extra safety.

One way to make it easier is to yank the firing pin safety and its spring.  This will effectively make your gun a series 70 with an extra part in the frame.

Yup series II with external extractor. So in order to get it in I had to depress the firing pin and the plug for the extractor spring at the same time and slide in the stop. What was giving me a problem is that when I was inserting the stop I would get to the point where the pen has to come out so that the stop can slide over the top of the firing pin. I was not fast enough and the firing pin would come back just enough to engage the firing pin block safety. and the firing pin would be sticking up just enough that I would not get the stop past it.

Do not know if the Colt 80 series and kimbers are same type in operation in the slide area.

When I do it on Colts I over insert the firing pin and have the saftey plunger hold it in place. Slide on the plate then push in the saftey plunger. the firing pin will then spring into the correct postion.

They are similar -- both use a springloaded plunger to block the firing pin.  Colts aren't too bad, but you really need three hands to get the Kimber firing pin reinstalled.
