Is it worth the money or should I just find a mag well that just fits under the grip screws?

Why not a Smith and alexander mag well mainspring housing?  That would give you the option of an arched MSH and save you ten bucks.  As far as I know the S&A are the standard by which others are judged.

and where would I find this S & A magwell, mainspring?  Is it an easy install that I could do?

Directly from S&A is one. here's the page

Clark custom guns sells them as well.  Here's that page

They are about as hard to install as a new mainspring housing.  In other words, not bad at all.  Depending on how well it fits from the factory it may require a little stoning.  But not too bad.  Any good guide on stripping a 1911 should be able to tell you how to take the old MSH out and reassemble it in reverse.

I have an Ed Brown on my S.A. 1911. What I like about it is that you can remove the magwell very easily in order to use McCormick 10 round mags. A hex head screw is used to attach the magwell to the MSH.
