Since the weather is cooler and my wife is wear more cloths she has decided that she wants to carry my G19. So I need to get me a new carry piece. I want to stick to caliber I already have 9 mm, 45 acp or 357 mag. So I was thinking of getting another G19 or G21 or an XD in 9 or 45.

Self fulfilling question is self fulfilling. I should have wrote the question better. I of course have experience with the Glock but have never shot/carried one of the XD and was kind of looking for an opinion on it. |

Do you have any specific reason to change from what you were already accustomed to carrying?

How about an HK USPC 9mm? I have shot one of those. I did not like the fit in my hand. Quoted:

Do you have any specific reason to change from what you were already accustomed to carrying? This is also my first thought. In your case I might consider a G19 Gen 4 to give both the wife and yourself some different grip size options. Keep in mind that depending on how the gen 4 works out you might end up buying a second gen 4 to keep everyone happy I think it would be a fun project to shoot the old G19 alongside the gen 4 with the different grips. Don't expect a huge difference but it could be interesting. I would caution you to not worry so much about how the different guns "feel" but base your choice on the results of your shooting. I say this because the glock I actually shoot the best is a standard grip G30 which "feels" big and dumb and stupid but I actually shoot quite well I guess the huge grip that "feels" ridiculous is spreading the recoil out and letting me control the gun better This is the case for me,you or the wife could easily find different results. I feel Glock sets the standard for reliability and factory support and has a very reasonable price, why change a winning game? |

Have a USPc 9, its more a safe queen now. go with the G19...simple and easy to use...easy to conceal

Another good CCW to consider is the Springfield XDS. Comes in the 45ACP flavor currently. I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet but it's the perfect size for med/large hands.

I think that balance in a carry/fighting handgun is one of the most important factors along with combat accuracy and reliability. The XD for lack of better word is "top heavy". I dont like a grip safety on anything but a 1911. You know the Glock and have accessories for the Glock.....You know the answer. Glock 19 |

Another Glock 19. I tried to not be a glock guy, but it happened anyway.

That's the lowest price I was able to find locally - other shops wanted $600++. Check out that store if it's in your area. |

Seriously you already own one gun in a platform, buy another one. This keeps parts the same, gun's the same, mags the same. Both you and her know how to use them.
Buy a G19. |
|
If you want to dabble in something other than the G19, an Hk P30 in 9mm would be at the top of the list.
|
|
G17. At one time I thought my G19 was the be-all, end-all pistol. Now I like shooting my G17 more than the 19.
|
|
I'd try and shoot whatever you are thinking about changing to first. If you shoot the 19 well and are used to it I don't see much reason to change. (this is from someone who doesn't shoot Glocks well)

I highly recommend getting another G19. There are obvious advantages to having the same gun, ammo, and mags as your significant other. Only one kind of ammo, mags, and spare parts to stockpile.
I can understanding getting something different if you said she wanted something that sucked, but she chose pretty wisely out of the gate. |

Sounds like in this case that you should ask your wife, as she is apparently the gun person in your household.

If you liked what you had, just buy a new one of the same. If the G19 worked before it will work now.

Sounds like in this case that you should ask your wife, as she is apparently the gun person in your household. ETA: I have 18 HGs in my safe - I live in Northern NJ and experienced Hurricane Sandy. Of the 18, 2 are G17s and one G19. We are limited to 15 round mags in NJ and Glock ( to my knowledge) only make 10 and 17 round mags so I only have 10 rounders for the G17s. I always thought that my go-to gun was my Springfield 1911 and that's what sits in my bedside gunvault. When I realized just how big and destructive the storm was going to be, the G19 is what I grabbed out of the big safe along with a few 15 round mags and placed squarelyon the coffee table. Last week I called the LGS and asked if they had any Gen 3 G19s in stock and they replied with "We have two in the case at the moment". An hour later they had one left in the case... |

Picked up a new G19 last night. . I aready have mags and holsters to fit it so I figured that would be easier then getting an XD all the stuff I would need for it.

Sorry for the off topic here, OP. EdB, if you are limited to 15 rounders, have you considered a frame chop for your G17? Something like this? Heres a link |

Glock 19. This. It's the answer anyway, even more so to have mag sharing with the wife. |

But it can be overcome with practice, if one isn't used to it. I was fine when I finally got to try out an XD Service Model. But I was long used to shooting handguns with a high bore axis, like the USPs, Sig Sauers and "art deco" style Rugers. So, the "top heavy" balance of the XD was no biggie. As for the OP, if he wants to save money on the goodies, I agree with everybody on the Glock 19. But there is nothing wrong with broadening one's horizons. |

Ever try a Hi Power? I'm a die hard Glock and 1911 man, but I recently gave the HP another shot- can't believe what I'd been missing.

M&Pc
I enjoy shooting a Glock but its no M&P. The fit in your hand is amazing. |
