That's to mount your light and/or magazine loader on for quick access.

Why would you do that instead of just getting a dedicated holster for you weapon mounted light.

That was actually pretty well thought out.  I can load the 19 rnd mags to full capacity but I don't know any women that can fully load them and I've seen men puss out without the loading tool.  They did a good job with the whole package and while the holster isn't top of the line it is pretty decent. The mag pouches are ok too.  Then there's the case. Take out one layer of foam and it makes a good laptop case.  Springfield did a good job putting the whole package together. While all of the goodies may not be the best they give you almost everything you need to get started and the gear is very serviceable.
