I need some input from those who have recently upgraded their agency issued weapons.  Is there a standard for determining when your agency should replace its handguns?  What is the average length of service for your agencies side arm?

Thankyou

You have to decide based on wear and ecomonics.  Money drives the issue.  Liability says go with a Glock in 40S&W or 9mm and choose a good bullet that breaks up on impact with a hard surface but works on BG's.

We are dumping the H&K's 'cause they are too heavy, you have to "row the boat" trigger and after 10yrs are getting loose and hard to qualify with.
The replacement is a Glock 23/35 40S&W.  Kills all three birds with one stone.

My 226 was made in 1991 and sounds like a baby's rattle when you dump the mag and clear the chamber and leave the hammer back.  Their gun, their rules.

ICE/Border Patrol considers a handgun (Berreta 96D/H&K USP compact) unserviceable at 10,000 rounds.
The weapon is replaced at that time.

We upgraded from revolvers to Sig 229's in .40 about 12 years ago. There is some talk about replacing our 229's, only because of age. The only option may be the new 229 with rails. I think it's called the 229R???? Another factor will be replacing the holsters. A good safariland level III goes for well over $100.00....
