So after much research and anticipation, and even against most peoples responses to the gun, I bought a Taurus snub nose 9mm model 905. Fit and finish were fine, but the action out of the box was not working right. I thought that maybe it just needed to be cleaned and broken in so I cleaned it and took it to the range. Trigger was ok in single action for a cheap gun. Accuracy was actually impressive with cheap ammo. But the action didn't work right. Sometimes the cylinder would not lock up and would just spin. Other times that action would just lock up so I had to open the cylinder to fix it. I bought this as a carry piece, but in it's present condition, I'd consider this gun dangerous. The gun was only 3 weeks old and only shot once, but I clean it again and it still kept locking up. I called Taurus and they of course agreed to fix it, but I had to pay for shipping. At this point I'm really upset. The gun cost me less then 300.00 so a 50.00 shipping fee for overnight delivery is significant. Once I get it back and try to sell it, I would be able to recover my 50.00, so right out of the box i'm out money simply for choosing a Taurus. All I can say is, never again. I'll see what the piece is like when I get it back, but I'll never consider a new one. I'll post a follow up once I get it back. Lovesbeer99 (but shoots safe) |
| I don't know what the problem is with this model but I had a similar problem with the cylinder either not turning or just spinning. I bought it for a local dealer and he sent it back for repair which cost me $15. Got it back and it worked fine but I sold it since I couldn't trust it as a carry piece. There 38s are great as I've never had a problem with any that I've owned. |
That's a bummer! I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of it. Could you replicate the problem dry firing? Or was it just during live fire? My 905 has many 100's through it with never so much as a hiccup. I trust it completely. |

Woody is the best! You have big shoes to fill if you think you are his caliber. I won't go into detail in a public forum but he's sought out some of the toughest $hit in the world, personally and professionally, and come out with flying colors. His deciding factor on joining the marine corp during the Vietnam era was a recruiter who said, "son, there are those who have been and those who are goin". He joined on the spot. Anyway, lovesbeer, did you get it back from Taurus yet? I had to send one of my revo's into them for a dumbass move on my part. They repaired and re-did everything, cleaned and returned free of charge. I was thrilled, never seen it so clean. If you can't recreate the problem dry firing I am going to cry user error, no offense..... |

My problem occured with or without ammo. It just wouldn't cycle right. Taurus claims that I should have it back in 4 weeks which is next week. I'll give another report once I get it to the range. If I have 1 good thing to say, the gun is accurate, but that's it. Anyone having problems with holding rounds, there is a way to "tune" your moon clips. Let me know and I'll be happy to explain. Shoot safe, have fun - Lovesbeer9 |
Good, if it only occured while shooting I was going to blame you for pulling the trigger without it being fully cocked. Sounds like the gun wasn't in good timing, I'm not a gunsmith though. Hope it works when it comes back (taurus can be slow but it will come back) and you can trade it off on something you trust. I haven't had any problems with the moon clips. Good luck. |
Nope. The smith and ruger moonies are too thick. The taurus ones are cheap, I ordered a bunch of them and haven't replaced one yet. |
