I checked out Kimbers new catalog and looked around on their website.  I noticed that all the TLEs (not just the Gold Combat version) have front strap checkering.  Since when did front strap checkering come standard on the TLEs?

As far as I know, the TLE has always had 30 lpi on the front strap.

Rookie question -- Why is the front checkering such a big deal to so many? It came on my CDP and I sort of dig it.

Personal preference really. Until I got my TLE, I'd never owned a 1911 that had front strap checkering. I could really tell the difference when I first fired it. The checkering gives me a more positive grip and I can feel myself not having to shift the gun in my hand after recoil, allowing me to index and fire follow up shots quicker.

YMMV.

I had never shot a 1911 with front strap checkering until I tried my brothers TLE. After shooting his Kimber with the checkering my good old Dan Wesson 1911 seems "slippery" in my hands.

I have a CDP and ProCarry II.. CDP with Checkering and Pro without. I love them both, but I think from now on I will opt for the checkering option. I feel the control and it makes a difference. Now under the trigger checkering might be a different thing, because it might be  too much grip, but that might just be in my head. I never said I was smart.
