Is there anything you guys have used that I can substitute as a key to unlock the Springfield ILS. I locked mine up and now I can't find the key. I've tried everything from searching all over the house to thinking where I would be if I was a key.

I tried using a bent paper clip to turn the lock but it was so small it just rotated inside the holes. The same thing happened with two toothpicks put together.

I don't know if there is some little tool I could use or some odd household product even.

Thanks in advance.

Take it to the gunshop that stocks springfield.

Or just remove the mainspring housing and replace it with a normal one...unless you actually need that lock, in which case, ignore this suggestion

Can it be removed if it is locked though?

I believe so - locking it makes sure you can't cock the thing if I remember right. It'll be tricky taking it off (the main spring and cup will want to shoot the thing out at hyper speed) but if you have it blocked or otherwise pointed in a safe direction, it'll be fine.

But, yah, you can always write/call Springfield and they'll send you another key, or as suggested if you bring it to your local gun store that stocks Springfields, they'll have a key around as well.

yes it can be removed when locked. RTFM it will advise to lock the ILS before ms housing removal. The ILS is what holds the mainspring cap inplace when removing the MSH.

you will need a new mainspring housing, mainspring cap, mainspring pin, and mainspring. about 60 bucks in parts.

Contact Springfield and order the normal mainspring housing and the above listed parts through them.  You will be much happier and not have to worry about finding the key to shoot your gun.

Or do like I do:   unlock it and stash the key in my gun cleaning tools kit (the one for full strip down - not the one I use for feild strip cleaning).   I don't use the ILS, and the key is only part of my "take down tools".  And, Its free!

Tyler - Springfeild is pretty good service... might even send you a few keys free.   Stash them in multiple places!   Good Luck - enjoy your expensive club in the meantime!

How about a small pair of scissors, doctors hemostats, needle nose pliers?

If anything, this a classic reason to can those damn ILS mainspring housing's as soon as you can. Now, until you can find a key, it's locked for your "saftey". I hope you've got a backup around the house should the need arise..... S.A. will probably send you a key for free, the used Mil-spec I bought awhile back, did'nt have one. I called S.A. and they sent me one..free.

Just tried them. They're all too large to fit in the holes.
