I hope this is not a repost. I looked around and didnt see anything about it here. Just got an email from GunsAmerica about this new beauty. Looks like it was revealed for the first time at the SHOT Show.

"It is a single stack .45ACP that holds 5 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. The barrel is 3.3 inches, and the overall length is 6.3 inches. It is only one inch thick. Empty the XDS weighs 29 ounces, and it is a striker fired pistol in the tradition of the XD and XD(M), with a polymer frame and forged steel slide."

Seems like a pretty sweet little concealed carry option. My only real issue with it at this point is the grip safety. I have never liked a grip safety, much less any safety on a carry weapon. That is strictly personal preference. This little guy really does fit a "niche" that not to many weapons fit into. I love my Kahr CW9 for being so slim and easy to conceal even in business attire here in hot Florida. What does everyone think?

Discuss.

Never cared for the looks of the XD guns, but that one doesn't look bad at all.
Could be my first XD!

By far the most interesting thing I have personally seen of the Shot Show coverage provided thus far.

This is relevant to my interests since I am in the market for a truly compact .45.  Looks good.

29oz! That has to be a typo. The kahr PM45 has the same capacity and weighs like 18oz.

Edit: the kahr weighs 17.3 w/ 5+1 capacity. My Sig C3 weighs 29.5oz and is a 7+1 CCO 1911!

My Springfield Micro 1911 is shorter, thinner, lighter, and has less rough edges.  And it holds 7+1 rds.  Not impressed with this new xD.

I have an XD45 that I like....this slim XD is interesting.....but, with 5 rnds, I'll stick with my C3 and my Ultra Raptor......

Your micro was probably twice the price too!

I'm digging it but truth be told the shorter grip will probably be a deal breaker for me. I don't deal with a dangling pinky very well!

So the advantage is less capacity and more weight than competitors?

Good call SA.

I think the weight issue is to help with recoil and was a conscious decision knowing that it would be heavier than competitors but shoot better. The compromise always seems to be smaller size vs. capacity. The other issue of course being price point. It may not meet everyone's desires but I think it's a step in the right direction for those who don't want a full size carry weapon. Will this make me want to trade or sell my full size XDm9 or XD Service 45, absolutely not, however I will certainly go fondle it when it hits the stores.

The weight must be loaded, an empty glock 21 weighs less.

Here is a video of it in action. Sorry cant embed videos, im not a team member :(

They should have extended the grip a little more to get 6-7 rounds per mag.

Looks interesting for sure. Definately want to check out one.

You can always offer a +1/2 mag later.  But you can't shorten the grip as easily.

If they offer a 7/8+1 in 9mm my wife may love to get one but 5+1 is just too close to the revolver she carries now.

I am leaning towards this. If they offered a 9mm or maybe even a .40, I would be interested, but this doesn't give me much (if anything) over my Colt Officers.

Looks decent, there's a bunch of information and videos on YouTube on the Springfield Armory XDS Single Stack .45ACP Micro.

That gun does look pretty interesting and impressive. Not enough so to get me to buy an XD but I will be curious to see how well it does and see if it wakes others up (Glock, S&W) to make something similar of their own?

Glock already has the G36
2/8/2012 7:46:05 PM EDT

Yah, but comparatively the g36 is much wider as it is double stacked.

[#21]
Uh, the G36 is slimmer than the G21/G30 & is a single stack...

The 36 grip is slimmer than the 30, but the slide width is the same.  A gun is only as thin as it's fattest part/dimension, IMO.  Wonder how it compares to this XD?

Its an amazing concept but why have a heavy gun with slim dimensions.  People that usually want a slim gun want a light weight gun as well, as it would give it more carry options.  If it weren't so heavy I could see myself buying this for a pocket carry gun.

the correct weight is 21oz, the 29oz was a mis print
