I recently picked up a brand new G19 and had a few "occurences" that caught my attention.  When using the heel of my left hand to seat a loaded magazine (firmly, but not slamming it) the slide will sometimes automatically close and load the chamber by itself.  Has anyone else ever had this happen?  I would really hate to have to send in my brand new gun to be fixed.

my usp does that.  but if i remember correctly, it says in the instruction manual that it will do that if you slam a mag.
i, personally, kind of like it.  it just eliminates a movement or two.

by the way, welcome to "our world"

had that happen with several guns. i know a guy who actually set up his gun to do that. It does not need to go back to Glock just yet. Most problems can be fixed easily without Glocks outstanding service.
Take a look at your slide stop. How well does it engage the slide?

Welcome to the board by the way

Common, more so with Glocks than others.  Most Glock shooters I know consider a good thing.

My 9mm glocks do that. I don't mind it at all--just makes my reloads that much faster.

Slamming the mag/seating it hard in the pistol, Is enough to jar it loose from the slide stop. I have many Glocks, And can get  just about every Glock I own, do that. It's not a 1911, You don't have to slam the mag in. Push till you hear the mag "click" in.

Mine does that all the time.  I don't consider it a problem.

All of my handguns do it including my USPs and M&Ps.

It's not a defect; will do it fewer times with muzzle pointed down than with muzzle pointed up.

As stated it is common. One thing it will do and it is purely cosmetic, when you drive the mag in hard like that it will put a dent at the bottom of the mag catch slot over time. Not an issue just a cosmetic thing.

i was under the impression that this was a "feature" and not a "defect or problem."  something about a combat reload or some such term.

just what i heard, can't even cite a source.

It's not a "feature", just something that happens sometimes.  Has nothing to do with a "combat reload."

Wow, awesome responses, thanks guys!  I guess I'll stop trying to be John Clark and be a little more gentle when putting a mag in  Thanks for the welcome to the board as well, seems like another good place to lose a few hours at work.

You can correct it with a new recoil spring.  I don't like to rely on it for fear the round may not be fully chambered.

Yeah you got one of those auto-closers.

The ATF considers those automatics and only illegal aliens can have them.

Send it to me and I' take care of the rest.

i loved how my old work gun would release the slide forwards. i always gave the mag an extra bump when i slapped it in to make sure it was seated

i never knew this was a regular occurance, as that g19 was a range owned firearm that has probably seen a couple million (seriously) rounds
