Hello one and all,

Want to get a small size single-stack 9mm pistol.  Don’t currently have one and it’s just something I want.

Will be a “belt” gun – carried for CCW on those “light days”.

Been looking at a SIG 239 and  a S&W 908S.  Tried the Kahr pistols – really don’t want one.

So . .  any ideas ? ?  Like I said:  single-stack 9mm belt-gun, for those “light days”.

Thanks  ! ! ! !

SIG 239 is a great carry gun

You may want to take a look at the Springfield EMP

HK P7 PSP - nothing can compare.  Your in luck, Germany just sold the US like 17,000 of them.

Expect to pay $680 for a pristine one (grade A), $600 for a used but good condition (B) one, or $550 for a well used but serviceable one (C).

SIG P225
S&W 3913
Beretta 92M

These are all very reliable, durable, and accurate.

Quoted for truth.
Check with CDNN, they have great prices on them if they are still available.

Ignore all of them and look at a Kahr PM9 or a Rohrbach (sp?)

Star model B and model BM.

Not exactly small and thin, but VERY nicely made, accurate, and way underpriced: the Walther P1.

Had:
P7M8
Sig P6/225
Sig P239

Kept:
Kahr K9 in electroless nickel. Mine was made in 1994 (Serial is below 2000) and has been flawless aince day one.
Finally had to refinish - Duracoat in ACU gray-green.

The Kahr is really an astonishingly good firearm. Slim, short, but great pointing and controlling.
Reasonably priced used, as well.

P7s are cool, but also are an acquired taste. I got tired of the weight/size for what it was, and sold it (at a profit).

I'd personally avoid any S&W autos, with the possible exception of the M&P series. But I'm still waiting on those.

If you really don't want a Kahr, I'd do a Sig P239, myself.

YMMV.

S&W 3913 is a nice little single stack 9mm.

But before you buy one ask yourself what your gaining and losing by going single stack.  The difference in width between a Kahr or Walther single stack 9mm and a double stack 9mm like the Glock 19 or 26 is roughly 2 tenths of an inch.  Open a caliper up to 0.20" and ask yourself if it's worth losing 5 rounds (and the option of using 17 round spare magazines) to shave 0.20" off the width.  In a good IWB holster 0.20" in extra width makes little difference in comfort or concealability.

The differance between my Kahr and my Glock may be 2 tenths of an inch , but the differance is HUGE

From the old school, I would go with the Sig 225.

I concur -- they are heavy and relatively large for 8+1 of 9mm. Unfortunately the size and weight is distributed exactly backwards from what you want -- all in the grip.

The difference between a Kahr and a Glock is a big difference in the real world vs on paper. A couple Kahr mags on the belt are pretty much invisible. Put a Glock mag on the belt and you've got a lump. So consider the overall carry width -- Gun + holster + Spare Mag (what your shirt has to conceal) when making comparisons.

For a "light days" carry I would go with the Kahr in a ThreatSolutions UCR holster and a couple mags on the belt using mag carrier(s) with offset loops -- that would be a very low-profile carry.

I've been thinking about picking up a Kahr for this duty. As far as I know, Kahrs are going to be about as thing as it gets by virtue of their offset feed ramp patent(?) Just can't decide on what model to get. I would prefer polymer but they appear to be more problematic. Nevertheless I am leaning toward a P9 Covert.

What was it about the kahr you didnt like? I bought one for my wife and she loves it, I have to watch were I place my thumb while shooting it because it is so thin I tend to bumb the slide lock if I dont watch, but other than that it has been 100% reliable and pretty damn accurate.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.  I've had both (sold the Kahr) and carried both.  In a good IWB holster with a good belt I noticed NO difference between the PM9 and the G26.  In a pocket yes, a big difference, but not in a good holster.  Of course I'm a big dude and 0.20 is nonexistant to me, Hell, I'm carrying a Glock 29 IWB in a Crossbreed as I'm sitting typing this and I hardly know it's there, I carry it from the moment I wake up till I take off the pants at bedtime.

I'm guessing that if you find a 0.20" difference to be huge in an IWB holster than you've never had a good holster/belt combo.

Well there is one difference, the Kahr PM9 I had was one of the most unreliable semi auto's I've ever had, it made the Kel-Tecs I had seem good.  And of course repeated trips back to Kahr never solved the problem, they just kept denying there was anything wrong with the gun.  Worst gun I've ever owned and it took the prize from a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup that couldn't make it through a single mag without jamming.

Star Firestar in Starvel finish.  Bit heavy but small, compact single stack and very reliable. Usually around $250.00-$275.00 for a nice used one. Decent sights, trigger a bit grauchy but livable, 1911 style safety but a bit tighter to the frame.
