The mag release on my PM9 has had rust issues ever since I started carrying it often.  I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  It's not a huge deal, I usually remove it, clean it and coat it with oil once a month or so; still it is annoying.

This is a new one.
If the part is stainless I'd suspect sweat or moisture is getting into the area.

You could complain to Kahr, and see if they'll send you a new catch assembly.
If not, about all you can do is keep it as clean as possible and keep a good rust preventing lube on it.
I'd recommend using a lube that's known for giving good resistance to rust.
CLP Breakfree is one.

I don't believe it's stainless.  To bad it's not polymer.  The bottom line is this part presses against my side when carrying and gets wet with sweat often.  Protectant just ain't cutting it.

Another holster an option, possibly one that covers the mag release?

I had the same issue on a used P380 I bought.  CLP took it right off and I have not had an issue since but then again I don't carry it often.

I've had that happen with everything from SIGs to 1911s.  Take the release out and grease it and and channel.

My P9 has severe rust issues.
And it's not a carry piece.

I am considering getting it cerakoted to stop that.

My PM9 gets rust on the slide stop and magazine release after 2-3 days of carrying. I just use a brush to clean it off and keep a light coating of oil on it.

I called Kahr at one point about the issue and was told to either try a different method of carry, wipe it down several times a day, or keep it coated with oil to prevent rust. They didn't offer to recoat the parts or replace them under warranty, so I just went back to my normal routine of cleaning it every week or so.

I like the Kahr PM9 because it fills a void in my Glock's.  But it ain't a Glock!!  I don't particularly care for the trigger, they rust, and the break-in is BS.  As soon as Glock comes out with a single stack 9mm good bye Kahr.  In the mean time, I'll keep oiling and cleaning it.

You could replace it with the plastic one that comes on a C series.

Buy one or offer yours up for trade.

I didn't know the C series ones were plastic.  I will check into this, if they are a swap part, problem solved!

Thanks

I had the same issue with my PM9 a few years ago.  It was from a sweaty part of a thin leather holster I was leaving it in for extended periods.  I started cleaning my leather with glycerine soap more often and using a nice light coat of oil on the mag release and bolt catch exterior surfaces after cleaning.  I've had no issues since then.
