Never seen or used a Rock Island Armory, but I have a Springfield. I have never had a problem with it, no FTE, FTF or any other malfunction. I would spend the extra and get the Springfield.

For quality I would be on the Springfield, but I have never even seen a Rock Island Armory in person.  I just don't like them because that is such an "American" name and the damn things are from the Philippines.  Same thing could be said about Springfield though, which might be assembled here but really is from Brazil.  Anyway, quality aside, keep in mind ease of resale and resale value and buy the Springfield.

No experience with the RIA, so Springfield it is, but I'm a little biased since I have one.

If a Porsche were only $100 more than a Volkswagon which would you get? Depending on your spending habits and budget I would recommend always getting the best as you only buy quality once.

One can argue Springfield, Wilson, and Kimber... never seen a Rock Island so I can't say anything good nor bad about them but I tend to stick with the big boys.

I just saw an RRA 1911 today, and I was really impressed! Nice lookin' gun. I'd go for it, if for no other reason to deny SA the tribute they make you pay just to have "Springfield Armory" stamped on it. Don't get me wrong, SA makes a damn good gun, but they sure break it off in you when it comes to pricing.
