I've got a Colt Series 70 Govt Model that I've had for going on 30 years. It's been shot ALOT over the years: range time, plinking, USPSA, IDPA, USMC range qual, dispatching the occansinal ferial dog and carry gun when going to Memphis.
I've been pondering having it rebuilt or replacing it with a newer 1911. It'll cost more to rebuild the gun than it cost new but would I have as good a gun as buying a new one? This is what has been done to it over the years: Wilson three dot sights and extended trigger. Chip McCormmick hammer and sear. Clark match barrel bushing (hand fitted) Flat mainspring housing Ejection port lowered Wolff 16.5 lb recoil spring Misc worn parts replaced. Old Marine

Do all of the machine work you want before refinishing. i.e. front strap treatment. Make sure you aren't going to want anything done later because it makes the job more expensive the next time around. |
